Assistant Controller Cleveland, OH
Rapidly growing contracts/services subsidiary of Fortune 1000 business has created an Assistant Controller position to help this organization's continued expansion. Reporting to one of two Division Controllers, employee will be the key financial resource for the subsidiary organization - performing the role of strategic partner in the business decision-making process while serving as the standard-bearer regarding proper accounting for, and analysis of, the contracting and services segments of this business. Additionally, position will continuously ensure a proper and ethical balance between the needs of business partners and that of an independent, financial resource with direct fiduciary responsibility and stewardship to parent organizations. Major responsibilities include:
• Proper accounting, statement presentation and analysis of design/build, percentage of completion, completed, maintenance and warranty contracts. • Ensure accuracy of financial statements within guidelines of U.S. GAAP, SEC, Sarbanes-Oxley and company policies. Responsible for the adequacy of all reserves at the business unit level - calculation as well as communication of such. • Aid Division Controller and senior management in the development and implementation of the annual operating and long term strategic plan. Such plans will include revenue forecasts, expense budgets, cost savings opportunities, working capital requirements, PP&E investment and other balance sheet activity.
Requirements include a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience with a bachelor's degree. Target profile also includes: • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting. Master's degree in Business Administration or C.P.A. a plus but not required. • Must have 5+ yrs experience in area of accounting for contracts. Extensive experience with completed-contract, percentage-of-completion and design/build methods as detailed in SOP 81-1. • Must be able to teach/train others as to specific requirements referenced in EITF's, SEC bulletins, AICPA statements and other publications relating to accounting for long-term construction contracts.
