At Korea House, the food is as authentic as the surroundings are austere. The dining room, a low-ceilinged rectangle, contains perhaps a dozen tables, including seating for larger parties. The tables can fill quickly, frequently with families, and busier-than-usual meal times can find the dining room slightly understaffed. But the food is worth the wait. Ban chan (salads) include shreds of mild Japanese radish, marinated spinach and fiery turnip cubes in kimchee spices. Sangsun jigae, one of several soups, cooks scrod and tofu in a spicy broth with turnips, zucchini and scallions. Kalbee gwee jungsheek (beef short ribs) are marinated, charcoal-broiled and served flavorful and tender.
