This tiny eatery serves up home cooking like Grandma's - that is, if Grandma lives just outside San Juan. Menus are in Spanish, but a whiteboard behind the counter provides some translations; grab a stool at the counter or a table near the window, and take a culinary adventure. Moist and flavorful pulled pork served with saffron-and-tomato-tinted rice is a fantastic option, as is the Marinara fish (which arrives topped not with a tomato sauce, but sauteed sweet yellow peppers and onions). Fried plantain is served stuffed with a variety of fillings, including octopus. Veal and goat stew are available, and even the usual standard of pinto beans is special, served as a smoky, velvety, nearly liquid paste.
