Food is Fantastic, Service Stinks!

Absolutely love any Michael Simon creation, and this restaurant is no exception. Have not been disappointed on any occasion by the food or drinks (Hot Dirty Bird is my fav!). However, consistent with every visit, the service (with the exception of the bartenders) has been terrible. The hostess (young, snotty person, who is always unpleasant to walk-ins) always gets under my skin, and the waiters/waitresses need a lesson in manners (watched one waitor get into a fight with a table - but i believe he was fired / quit - and my waitress one time gave my friend a very hard time about remaking a drink that was not to her liking). I go back many times because the food is really delicious (my fav for happy hour is the procuitto pizza and steammed mussels), but i definitely think there is a lot of room for improvement for the service.

Starters were excellent; dates and the lamb meatballs were excellent. The pork chop and the chicken entrees were not memorable. The worst, however, was the fact that the air conditioning was not working at all. What owner would not get it fixed ASAP if he/she wants return business, even if it was a Sunday. The manager and waitress apologized only after we made a comment. But not so much as a goodwill gesture such as a free dessert was forthcoming. It's not about the money it's about taking care of your patrons. We're from out of town so we're not coming back, but we wouldn't recommend it either -- presumably the other restaurants owned by the chef have the same disregard for it's patrons.

I love this place!

We (my friends and I) try to go to Lolita once a month. We really enjoy the atmosphere and the food is fantastic. I think between all of us we have eaten our way through most of the menu and loved everything! You know when you go to a restaurant and are so used to the menu you know what you want before you sit down- well at Lolita for me it's brussel sprouts and the duck prosciutto pizza and the drink called beta-it is absolutely the best! The first time we went I had no idea what to expect and was happy about everything-if you are open to having a good time you will! The staff is nice and friendly with us even though they are usually busy...the place always clean and the food is cooked in an open kitchen so if you want to see what is going on you can. Oh and we drive 65 miles to get there and Lolita is worth the time it takes to get there and the time it takes for them to get us a table if we didn't think ahead to make a reservation and we have never been let down. I love this place!

Amazing experience and food!!

Our visit to Lolita was absolutely amazing. We made reservations in advance because my husband and I are not from Cleveland. We were seated right away even though it was busy and our server was very helpful and friendly! The food was amazing, one of the best meals I have ever had and the waitress suggested a wonderful wine to go with. I had the tarragon chicken, my husband the flat iron steak, both perfectly cooked. Over all I give Lolita a 5 because even though it was busy our appetizers and entrees arrived fairly quickly and at the right temperature, the server was wonderful and the atmosphere was great!!

Awesome Experience

We celebrated Fathers Day with dinner at Lolita. It was a wonderful experience in fine dining. We had an appetizer of very special ravioli, main course of walleye and side of fried brussel sprouts. The preparation and seasonings were amazing. And oh yes-my husband said the martini was great also. Service and ambience made for a memorable eve.

Very Let Down

My expectations of an Iron Chef's restaurant was everything inside would be crisp and popping. As I sit here writing this, I can't find the words to explain how I feel. The restaurant was so hot, the sweat was running down everyone's backs. The food was dull and unseasonsed. The prokchop had no sear. The cured meat platter was wonderful! The brussel sprouts were overcooked. Maybe I was expecting too much. I was sort of embarrased because of our friends who we brought there for dinner. Chef, WLT

disappointing

we stopped in late (twice) for a bite after the theater. We wondered where the cheese was on our cheese plate (4 slivers of cheese, really). Dip was not memorable. A ton of olives was enjoyable. the patrons ordering meat seemed to be quite happy but as a vegetarian - special wines/food options/flavors were disappointing.

Lolita is good...Lola is much better.

We went on a Friday night around nine for our fist visit to lolita. The hostess said there was an hour and a half wait (the restaurant was much smaller than expected) so we found two seats at the bar for some wine. The bartenders were extremely friendly, the drink selection between beer and wine was decent. The hostess got to us in about an hour, and we sat to eat. Our waiter was not the friendliest guy, he was pretty arrogant to say the least. The food was okay too, both of the meals we got were very salty, but all and all we had a great time, the prices were beyond reasonable.

Go for happy hour!! The salad and Apps are 1/2 price, and are great. Wow, the chef really puts time and effort into the menu. Don't get the chicken, (It is not bad, just boring), Venture out and try something new!!

Fabulous Experience

Read all these posts with mixed reviews and was ready to cancel our reservations. So glad we didn't! We had 6:00 reservations on a Saturday, walked in, and very immediately got served. For appetizers we ordered the warm olives, mussels, and stuffed peppers-which were all delicious. The waiter took time to answer all of our questions, brought drinks and foods out promptly, and made our experience very fun. For our entrees two of us got the scallops special (the best we have ever had), one got the lamb (voted the best meal at our table) and the pork chop (another great choice). The brussel sprouts were by far the most delicious thing ordered! They were packed with flavor and the topic of conversation the rest of the night. All in all we had an extraordinary experience. The bill was $170 for 3 appetizers, 4 meals, 1 dessert, and lots of alcohol drinks. Most people only post when they have a bad experience. Take your chance and try Lolita! We are glad we did!

Terrible Servie

We waited for over 1/2 hour for our table, even though we had a reservation. Hostess was extremely rude. Our service was poor, we didn't eat until after 10:00 pm, despite a 7:30 reservation. Took forever to get drinks. Food came out wrong. When we asked a server (not our server, for she couldn't be found) for the right food we were met with a haughty 'you need to tell your own server'. When we finally spoke with the manager she was flippant about our poor service, offered no apologies. We will NOT be going back and I'd suggest the same to others reading this!!

Wonderful!

My husband and I went this past Saturday (Dec. 26) to Lola's! And it was wonderful, the food, service, atmosphere etc. Prices were to be expected BUT well worth every dime. Portion sizes were great enough for my husband I to sample one anothers. I had the duck and he had the scallops...WONDERFUL! After reading other reviews we were hestitant to go. I am so glad that we did thank you Chef Simon!

Exceptional food and lots of it!!

After a disapointing dinner experience in Tremont several years ago I had to twist my husbands arm to return to the area. He doesn't want a little bit of food that looks good...he wants dinner! What a find for us!!! Lolita's portions were large...hanger steak and lamb steak...beautiful presentation, delicious, delightful waiter, and belive it or not Brussel Sprouts to die for. Took home appetizer and entre leftovers but didn't turn away dessert. Prices were reasonable.

Disappointed

After waiting 20 minutes beyond our reservation time (not too bad) we waited an hour and 15 minutes after ordering for our food to arrive. Two of us ordered the hanger steak which was cooked properly but was tough and had NO spices or flavor. My friend asked for steak sauce or even ketchup but our waitress claimed they didn't have either. She brought an oil dressing which didn't work with steak. Two of us ordered the lamb steak which was more tender but not very flavorful. The staff seemed offended that we asked for salt and pepper. All in all we were disappointed and won't be going back anytime soon.

Worth It

We did a day trip from Pittsburgh to try one of Iron Mike's restaurant's. Expert preparation of gourmet recipes. I especially liked the roasted dates and the mushroom ravioli, but it was all delicious. Service wasn't bad, but it didn't come close to keeping up with the food. The hostess wasn't remotely friendly and the bus girl cleared our bread plates right before the appetizers arrived. The atmosphere, both inside and outside the restaurant was cool and chic. The most pleasant surprise of all was the reasonable price at the end of the evening (under $150.00 for a family of four). I would definitely go back.

Not So Good!

I'm really not excited about writing a bad review. But in this case I just can't avoid the unfortunate situation. Four of us walked in ate the same thing the kobe beef burger and a drink just to sample what people have been raving about. I had a gut feeling when I bit into this thing that I was going to regret ordering it. Over cooked on the outside a little undercooked on the inside no spices of any kind not even salt or pepper. Without going into the gory details I suffered through 2 of the worst days of my life along with my companions. Again I don't know if the meat was cross contaminated or just plain bad. How this guy got national acclaim is one of the 8 wonders of the world. Please be very careful if something doesn't seem right walk away quickly.

Making it right!

I recently went to Lolita's after months of trying to get there with my wife for dinner. it was out 11th anniversary and we were going to Lolita's to make it a special night...well...the appetizers and drinks were great. Ricotta spread with rosemary, etc, on flatbread, to die for...however, when the dinner came out, it was not to the right temperature (room temp steak) for me and my wife's meal was a little more rare than she had asked for. It was then that our waiter, Mark, stepped it up a notch...he appologized and said that our dinner was on the them. He was sorry that our anniversary dinner had turned out not to our satisfaction and offered to "start over". he cleared the table, brought us drinks and the kitchen prepared another entire meal for us, on the house...the second chance dinner was awesome. He even brough us a lemon cupcake (much nicer than a lemon cupcake, but I don't know the exact name of it) with a candle in it after dinner...I would like to thank Lolita's and Mark for a great time, atmosphere, and making my and my wife's 11th Anniversary an overall wonderful evening...

A bit of class

A group of my friends and i drive to Cleveland from Youngstown at least once a month to partake of this fine dining. The atmosphere is great, the food is superb, and the service is very friendly. The staff is so friendly that they make exceptions and make food and drink thats not on the current menu. Their mint lemonade is heavenly.

Maybe the best.......

This place just might be the best place to eat in NE Ohio. I have ventured there 6 times in the last 5 months and I live 65 miles away. The Tremont area has wonderful places to eat and Lolita is one of the best. The big board for 2 is a must and if you are there for happy hour the burger for $5 just might be the best thing ever made. The pizza is fantastic and the duck my friend had was absolutely to die for. The gnocchi is the best I have ever had. Service is always top notch and the prices are great. I don't believe anything is over $20 on the menu.

Wow......

I've been wanting to try Lola in Tremont since it opened (as I was a fan of The Food Network's "Melting Pot" which featured Michael Symon). Now Lola is Downtown and we ventured last night to Tremont for Lolita. The food was exceptional. The service was outstanding. The prices are very reasonable. I had the Hanger Steak..I think it's the best meal I've ever had! I can't wait to go back!

Lolita's in Tremont

Oct. 16 I had dinner @ Lolita's. Food great - service poor. We were late for our play. KYM made 2 errors on our bill & was rude. I talked to the mngr. He apologized & promised to send a gift card which never came. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Prices not $$$$

I also forgot to mention that the prices are not $$$$, as this site leads one to believe. Most entrees are in the $14-20 range, with one or two on the menu that are more than that, like the Fred Flinstone. Also, Lola / Lolita finally updated their website, check it out for their full menu. www.lolabistro.com

Possibly the best restaurant in Cleveland

This is one of the best restaurants in Cleveland. The food, service, wine list, and ambiance will make you want to come back time and time again. Don't miss out on the house cured meats and fish, as well as the delicious cheese plate. They also have amazing happy hour specials. $5 will get you the Oysters with Love Sauce, Mussels, Proscuito Flat Bread, a combo of fired smelt and fries, Mac & Cheese, or the Kobe Beef Burger (my favorite!). The Kobe Burger is the same on that is on the normal menu for $15! They also have $4 glasses of wine (bartenders choice of red or white) and $2 Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Lolita's happy hour runs Tu-Th: 5-6:60 AND 9:30-close, Fri-Sat: 10-close, and Sun 4-9. This has to be the best deal in town!

Awsome food. I dream about it at night.

My husband and I had dinner on a Saturday night. I called that day for reservations and they were booked until 9:30, which was fine; we eat late. The atmosphere is very hip and crowded but they sat us in a corner by the window and it felt quite intimate despite the noise level. Maybe because it is dim with lots of candles? Apparently the owner used to have a restaurant in the same spot called Lola's, which closed, and it has been sort-of reopened as Lolitas, which seems to specialize in tapas. You CAN get entrees that looked interesting on the menu but we stuffed ourselves only with tapas, which were awesome. Each tapas order is quite small (they ARE named "small bites" so I guess it shouldn't be a surprise.) They are so tasty though that it is disappointing that there isn't more! Very imaginative and delicious dishes. The best, though, was the Big Board for Two. A tray of house-cured meats and cheeses. Oh my Lord are they good! I would go back and just eat 3 of these orders! These little tissue-paper thin slices of different meats melt in your mouth and, with the cheeses and chutneys, are to die for. We paid $70 for the "meal" with 2 glasses of wine and walked out of there very happy. We'll be back!
