Sorry Symon...Would Never Go Back

We came to Lolita for my mother-in-law's 60th birthday. The hostess was tacky, covered 9in tattoos. We had a reservation and waited a few minutes for a table which was fine. Our server looked like she just rolled out of bed and was not very friendly. She rushed taking our orders and did not know the specials off hand. We were a party of 12 spending alot of money and she was difficult to track down and very slow. the food was below average. I had the bruschetta appetizer and it was cold. My brother-in-law had the pig tails and when he asked the waitress how to eat them she was incredibly snarky. My husband had the bone marrow and said it tasted like it was defrosted. then for dinner I had the market special which was salmon. Ilove salmon and this came out to me completely unseasoned and so dry I sent it back. The waitress was incredibly rude and offered nothing, she did not even send a manager over. I would never go back here again. Horrible service and horrible food. Overall bad experience.

Looked Past Bad Reviews And Went. Thumbs Down

Ok I read all the reviews and talked to a few friends about the food. And here's what i think about Lolitas, we ordered the flat bread and artichoke dip and the dip tasted totally like fennel seeds no artichoke at all.For meals we ordered the mac and cheese which was way to salty,we also ordered the pork chop that was very good and the brussel sprouts that were totally over spiced and oily. Service was ok. Prices weren't bad but i expected alot better quality of food.

Special nite out

My husband and I recently ate at Lolitas and we were both delighted and surprised about how delicious and flavorful our meal turned out to be. My husband and I ordered the porkbellies served with arugula salad and fried chicken livers served with a creamy polenta sauce. We both ordered the pork chop and the roasted asparagus, duck fat potatos, and the fried brussel sprouts. We had fantastic service and were allowed to actually dine at our leisure, enjoy the ambiance, wine, and conversation. We arrived at 9pm and left around midnight. Our dessert was ok I think it was a warm chocolate cake with oranges. Interesting flavor combination. I liked the fact the menu choose to highlight produce, ingredients, and meats from locally owned farms. The pork was juicy and flavorful, seared perfectly and was a generous size. Overall if you enjoy the dining experience and not just eating (big difference) this is the place for you. By the way my husband is the pickiest eater, pretty much a meat and potato guy and he can't wait to come back.

Horrible Experience

My husband and I came in tonight to Lolita in Tremont. It was a dreadful experience to say the least. We were a walk-in and the hostess was snarky with us (just like she has been before to us) since we were a walk-in. Our service was terrible as well. My husbands meat was undercooked and my pasta was way too salty. I have been to all of Michael Symon's restaurants and I must say Lolita is by far the WORST. If you are in Cleveland tonight I recommend Lola. Never going back.

Never again

While visiting Cleveland on business I was looking forward to trying out Michael's restaurants. I first tried out his B Spot restaurant. The burgers were very good, but I thought the portions were a little small for the prices. I did like some of the sauces he provides on the tables. The ShaSha sauce was GREAT! Tonight I visited Lolita with some co-workers. I am sad to say that it was not good at all. The restaurant is in an old house that was done over very nice inside, but that is the only compliment I could honestly give. They have no parking. The setup is VERY crowded, and the noise level was very high. Except for the water boy our service was VERY slow. We started out with the seared shrimp and roasted bone marrow appetizers. They sent out 5 quarter sized shrimp for a party of 3 for $8. The roasted bone marrow was a 4 inch long 1 inch diameter cow bone that had been sawed in half while frozen. They drowned it in olive oil and roast it. It was served with some pickled onions and a few chunks of very stale bread. The marrow had no taste except for the olive oil. Not much for value for $8 even if it had tasted good. Both of my co-workers had pizza, which they said was good. I had the special of the day which was trout, and the fried brussel sprouts as a side. The trout was about 10 to 12 ounces served skin on piled up in pieces in a very large bowl, not very pretty. I have had trout in lots of places, and I am sorry to say that this was the worst I have ever had. Good trout has an almost sweet taste to it. This had a VERY bitter fish taste, like it was old. The only other flavor that I could taste was again excess amounts of olive oil. I am not sure if the fried brussel sprouts was supposed to be blackened, but that is what I got. The burnt pieces were soaking in olive oil. They supposedly put capers, anchovies and walnuts in as well. I did taste a few nuts, but I did not notice any capers or anchovies. I would have to say don

Surprise Surprise

My 2 girlfriends and I happened in Friday and we were invited to stay and have our food at the bar since it would be awhile until a table was free. So , the hostess was nice- the bartender was AWESOME- we love him- he very graciously helped us pick our drinks and the Beta is the best drink I've ever drunk- the food was refreshingly different- my friends LOVED the Pork Chop and the warm olives and the pasta. The prices are not too pricey- if you are looking for a nice night out , even a blue collar Joe could afford a special date nite here. And I was surprised about the bathroom comment, I thought the bathroom was clean and bright. I guess Mr Symon must have visited and fixed the problems complained of in these postings!

************BIG LETDOWN - TERRIBLE WAITRESS****************

Sue S., our waitress made a snarky remark about our wanting the table by the window (not joking - like "who are we to want this table?!"). When ordering she acted like she could care less what we wanted. We asked simple questions and she gave us cold looks, and was "put out" answering questions about the entrees etc., we were made to feel bad. We noticed she did this to other tables too. The fried brocolli was too salty, lamb was good. Dessert is very understated - different pudding-type desserts all in the exact same glasses - reminded me of Appleby dessert shots. Our waitress plopped them on the table, we had no idea which dessert was what and who's - they all look the same - boring, again - she could care less too. Don't go here if you want someone to feel "special", the hostess (please, get a new hostess) and waitress (Sue S.) take the good feeling away. Also, bathrooms are dirty. I was shocked to see a tampon left in one of the stalls and dirty grime everywhere. Maybe Michael Simon should do some checking in. I doubt we'll go back, we don't feel like being abused by the help.

Uhmmmm what can I say, My partner and I were dining at the famous Lolita, The server seemed to be rather nice.. Then he got really nice and handed his phone number to my partner with the bill. I thought the gesture was rather tackey and ill-timed. If I wanted our server to hit on us I would go to Twist. Oh the food was great.

Avoid the Hangar Steak

It is with regret and even with a tinge of guilt that I write these negative comments. I was with a party of three on Wednesday night (Sept 29,'10), myself and two out of town guests from Cincinnati. I hasten to preface my comments by stating that my two guests enjoyed their meal unequivocally and my only complaint is of the hangar steak I ordered as my entree. To put it in the simplest terms, I had a really, really lousy piece of meat that should never have been served to me in even a lousy restaurant but we are talking about Lolita here. My first bite had promise because I sliced through it easily, with a promise of delicious tenderness. Unfortunately, it was pure unadulterated fat which I had to discreetly remove from my mouth and set aside. Undaunted, I tried again. This time it was fat adulterated with some very chewy morsels of vein, too tough to digest so it also was discreetly taken from my mouth and put to the side of the plate. Bear in mind that the dining area at Lolita is dimly lit, with votive type candles providing what little light there was. Further, the hangar steak was topped with salad greens and a dressing, effectively providing cover for whatever lay underneath. So, I neatly flipped the hangar steak so that I could barely perceive what I was about to consume. It was, indeed, a lousy cut, dominated by a rather large round bone in the middle, surrounded mostly by fatty, or chewy tissue and only occasionally some tasty pieces of lean meat. It was one third edible. When our nice waitress asked if we enjoyed the meal I felt compelled to tell the truth in a quite civil manner. The manager appeared shortly, apologized profusely, and assured us that my hangar steak would be removed from the bill. In the dim light we barely perceived all the items on the bill which included the wine, appetizers, dessert etc. To show that we had no ill feelings at all toward our guiltless server, we left a generous tip. However, back home we re-checked the bill and discovered that my hangar steak was still there. I hereby request that the cost of the hangar steak be included at some point in the restaurant's tipping pool. David Rupp Lakewood, Ohio

I took my wife to Lolita's for our 20 year anniversary. Harris was our waiter who knew every detail of any meal and was very good at what he does. We orderd the olives to start. We had a pasta dish and Lamb steak with the fried brussel sprouts. The dinner was just fantastic. If you have never tried the sprouts you don't know what your missing. Will be back

Was a trendy type of place. Pasta was overly salty. Music was played much too loud for my tastes. We had a part of 7 and I couldn't hear people at the other end of the table due to loud music. Other people seemed to enjoy food. Think I will try something different next time. I would give it a B, but please turn the music down some.

Food is Fantastic, Service Stinks!

Absolutely love any Michael Simon creation, and this restaurant is no exception. Have not been disappointed on any occasion by the food or drinks (Hot Dirty Bird is my fav!). However, consistent with every visit, the service (with the exception of the bartenders) has been terrible. The hostess (young, snotty person, who is always unpleasant to walk-ins) always gets under my skin, and the waiters/waitresses need a lesson in manners (watched one waitor get into a fight with a table - but i believe he was fired / quit - and my waitress one time gave my friend a very hard time about remaking a drink that was not to her liking). I go back many times because the food is really delicious (my fav for happy hour is the procuitto pizza and steammed mussels), but i definitely think there is a lot of room for improvement for the service.

Starters were excellent; dates and the lamb meatballs were excellent. The pork chop and the chicken entrees were not memorable. The worst, however, was the fact that the air conditioning was not working at all. What owner would not get it fixed ASAP if he/she wants return business, even if it was a Sunday. The manager and waitress apologized only after we made a comment. But not so much as a goodwill gesture such as a free dessert was forthcoming. It's not about the money it's about taking care of your patrons. We're from out of town so we're not coming back, but we wouldn't recommend it either -- presumably the other restaurants owned by the chef have the same disregard for it's patrons.

I love this place!

We (my friends and I) try to go to Lolita once a month. We really enjoy the atmosphere and the food is fantastic. I think between all of us we have eaten our way through most of the menu and loved everything! You know when you go to a restaurant and are so used to the menu you know what you want before you sit down- well at Lolita for me it's brussel sprouts and the duck prosciutto pizza and the drink called beta-it is absolutely the best! The first time we went I had no idea what to expect and was happy about everything-if you are open to having a good time you will! The staff is nice and friendly with us even though they are usually busy...the place always clean and the food is cooked in an open kitchen so if you want to see what is going on you can. Oh and we drive 65 miles to get there and Lolita is worth the time it takes to get there and the time it takes for them to get us a table if we didn't think ahead to make a reservation and we have never been let down. I love this place!

Amazing experience and food!!

Our visit to Lolita was absolutely amazing. We made reservations in advance because my husband and I are not from Cleveland. We were seated right away even though it was busy and our server was very helpful and friendly! The food was amazing, one of the best meals I have ever had and the waitress suggested a wonderful wine to go with. I had the tarragon chicken, my husband the flat iron steak, both perfectly cooked. Over all I give Lolita a 5 because even though it was busy our appetizers and entrees arrived fairly quickly and at the right temperature, the server was wonderful and the atmosphere was great!!

My expectations of an Iron Chef's restaurant was everything inside would be crisp and popping. As I sit here writing this, I can't find the words to explain how I feel. The restaurant was so hot, the sweat was running down everyone's backs. The food was dull and unseasonsed. The prokchop had no sear. The cured meat platter was wonderful! The brussel sprouts were overcooked. Maybe I was expecting too much. I was sort of embarrased because of our friends who we brought there for dinner. Chef, WLT

Lolita is good...Lola is much better.

We went on a Friday night around nine for our fist visit to lolita. The hostess said there was an hour and a half wait (the restaurant was much smaller than expected) so we found two seats at the bar for some wine. The bartenders were extremely friendly, the drink selection between beer and wine was decent. The hostess got to us in about an hour, and we sat to eat. Our waiter was not the friendliest guy, he was pretty arrogant to say the least. The food was okay too, both of the meals we got were very salty, but all and all we had a great time, the prices were beyond reasonable.

Fabulous Experience

Read all these posts with mixed reviews and was ready to cancel our reservations. So glad we didn't! We had 6:00 reservations on a Saturday, walked in, and very immediately got served. For appetizers we ordered the warm olives, mussels, and stuffed peppers-which were all delicious. The waiter took time to answer all of our questions, brought drinks and foods out promptly, and made our experience very fun. For our entrees two of us got the scallops special (the best we have ever had), one got the lamb (voted the best meal at our table) and the pork chop (another great choice). The brussel sprouts were by far the most delicious thing ordered! They were packed with flavor and the topic of conversation the rest of the night. All in all we had an extraordinary experience. The bill was $170 for 3 appetizers, 4 meals, 1 dessert, and lots of alcohol drinks. Most people only post when they have a bad experience. Take your chance and try Lolita! We are glad we did!

We waited for over 1/2 hour for our table, even though we had a reservation. Hostess was extremely rude. Our service was poor, we didn't eat until after 10:00 pm, despite a 7:30 reservation. Took forever to get drinks. Food came out wrong. When we asked a server (not our server, for she couldn't be found) for the right food we were met with a haughty 'you need to tell your own server'. When we finally spoke with the manager she was flippant about our poor service, offered no apologies. We will NOT be going back and I'd suggest the same to others reading this!!

After waiting 20 minutes beyond our reservation time (not too bad) we waited an hour and 15 minutes after ordering for our food to arrive. Two of us ordered the hanger steak which was cooked properly but was tough and had NO spices or flavor. My friend asked for steak sauce or even ketchup but our waitress claimed they didn't have either. She brought an oil dressing which didn't work with steak. Two of us ordered the lamb steak which was more tender but not very flavorful. The staff seemed offended that we asked for salt and pepper. All in all we were disappointed and won't be going back anytime soon.

We did a day trip from Pittsburgh to try one of Iron Mike's restaurant's. Expert preparation of gourmet recipes. I especially liked the roasted dates and the mushroom ravioli, but it was all delicious. Service wasn't bad, but it didn't come close to keeping up with the food. The hostess wasn't remotely friendly and the bus girl cleared our bread plates right before the appetizers arrived. The atmosphere, both inside and outside the restaurant was cool and chic. The most pleasant surprise of all was the reasonable price at the end of the evening (under $150.00 for a family of four). I would definitely go back.

I'm really not excited about writing a bad review. But in this case I just can't avoid the unfortunate situation. Four of us walked in ate the same thing the kobe beef burger and a drink just to sample what people have been raving about. I had a gut feeling when I bit into this thing that I was going to regret ordering it. Over cooked on the outside a little undercooked on the inside no spices of any kind not even salt or pepper. Without going into the gory details I suffered through 2 of the worst days of my life along with my companions. Again I don't know if the meat was cross contaminated or just plain bad. How this guy got national acclaim is one of the 8 wonders of the world. Please be very careful if something doesn't seem right walk away quickly.

Making it right!

I recently went to Lolita's after months of trying to get there with my wife for dinner. it was out 11th anniversary and we were going to Lolita's to make it a special night...well...the appetizers and drinks were great. Ricotta spread with rosemary, etc, on flatbread, to die for...however, when the dinner came out, it was not to the right temperature (room temp steak) for me and my wife's meal was a little more rare than she had asked for. It was then that our waiter, Mark, stepped it up a notch...he appologized and said that our dinner was on the them. He was sorry that our anniversary dinner had turned out not to our satisfaction and offered to "start over". he cleared the table, brought us drinks and the kitchen prepared another entire meal for us, on the house...the second chance dinner was awesome. He even brough us a lemon cupcake (much nicer than a lemon cupcake, but I don't know the exact name of it) with a candle in it after dinner...I would like to thank Lolita's and Mark for a great time, atmosphere, and making my and my wife's 11th Anniversary an overall wonderful evening...

The Tremont area has wonderful places to eat and Lolita is one of the best. The big board for 2 is a must and if you are there for happy hour the burger for $5 just might be the best thing ever made. Possibly the best restaurant in Cleveland

This is one of the best restaurants in Cleveland. The food, service, wine list, and ambiance will make you want to come back time and time again. Don't miss out on the house cured meats and fish, as well as the delicious cheese plate. They also have amazing happy hour specials. $5 will get you the Oysters with Love Sauce, Mussels, Proscuito Flat Bread, a combo of fired smelt and fries, Mac & Cheese, or the Kobe Beef Burger (my favorite!). The Kobe Burger is the same on that is on the normal menu for $15! They also have $4 glasses of wine (bartenders choice of red or white) and $2 Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Lolita's happy hour runs Tu-Th: 5-6:60 AND 9:30-close, Fri-Sat: 10-close, and Sun 4-9. This has to be the best deal in town!

Awsome food. I dream about it at night.

My husband and I had dinner on a Saturday night. I called that day for reservations and they were booked until 9:30, which was fine; we eat late. The atmosphere is very hip and crowded but they sat us in a corner by the window and it felt quite intimate despite the noise level. Maybe because it is dim with lots of candles? Apparently the owner used to have a restaurant in the same spot called Lola's, which closed, and it has been sort-of reopened as Lolitas, which seems to specialize in tapas. You CAN get entrees that looked interesting on the menu but we stuffed ourselves only with tapas, which were awesome. Each tapas order is quite small (they ARE named "small bites" so I guess it shouldn't be a surprise.) They are so tasty though that it is disappointing that there isn't more! Very imaginative and delicious dishes. The best, though, was the Big Board for Two. A tray of house-cured meats and cheeses. Oh my Lord are they good! I would go back and just eat 3 of these orders! These little tissue-paper thin slices of different meats melt in your mouth and, with the cheeses and chutneys, are to die for. We paid $70 for the "meal" with 2 glasses of wine and walked out of there very happy. We'll be back!
