An Akron institution, Luigi's consistently places in Live's readers' poll for Best Pizza. And with good reason: Luigi's serves a cheese-crisped, thick-crusted pie that leaves us debating exactly what makes it so tasty. Maybe it's the quality toppings and a slightly sweet crust. Some claim it's the sauce. But if you feel like passing on the pizza, we recommend trying the tender meatballs or the baked pasta combination of ravioli and rigatoni; garlic infuses the marinara, but the outcome is a flavorful - not heavy - sauce. The tasty food, consistent service and late hours keep Luigi's bustling. You will find all types of people here, and the decor is as varied as the clientele: A family might be dining beside a mural of the countryside, while twentysomethings share a late-night pizza beneath rows of framed photos of late celebs or bowling champs.
