My First Impressions ...
On 8/27/09 I took my wife here for our first time. We walked in and there was a putrid smell in the bar area. Putrid. The hostess was engrossed in her laptop. After a minute or two we were seated. The atmosphere was great, service, very good, food excellent. Price was reasonable too. Leaving was the same as entering..the bar, empty, and very stinky. The hostess said goodbye as she hid her face in her laptop. Not the nicest I've been treated. At least the food and service at our table was good.

The West side Italian experience
I typically order the meatball sub for lunch. I add a side salad and forget about the fries. The best meatball sandwich next to my Mama's. With a tip and water to drink - $11.50. Stuffed to the gills. The best part about Maria's next to the food is the service and atmosphere. The wait staff are attentive without being obnoxious. 45 minutes of good food with Frank or Dean over the sound system in the middle of a workday really sets the tone for the afternoon.

Pretty much the Best!
Pretty much the best Italian food you can get for the money. The alfredo is second to none and their white clam sauce pasta is basically all clams. The complimentary buttered and toasted garlic bread just keeps coming. The service is friendly and quick. The majority of their entree dishes range from 10-15.00. Just try it once and you'll be hooked. I can guarantee you'll be pleased. I dont have a bad word to say about this place.

Good food for a good price
I've been to Maria's twice and both times have been very pleased. The food has been well prepared and it tasted great. There is a large variety of entrée choices on their menu as well as an extensive drink menu. The service has always been prompt and pleasant. While the decor of the restaurant could be updated it's definitely a nice place to eat.

Average at Best.
There is really no reason to go to Maria's, with all the great Italian restaurants in Cleveland. Tried the calamari, it was awful-- rubbery and slathered in batter. The pasta sauce was only average. The filey mignon was good, but I paid $22, so it was expected to be good. Also, there was the constant presence of a fruit fly or two. Overall, I would rate it as average, but I will never go back.

Tucked into the east end of Lakewood is an Italian-American treasure. Maria's is the complete Italianate-dining experience, offering the ambiance as well as the cuisine. Domestic and Italian wines prepare the palate for light fare or a more ambitious culinary experience. Pasta Maria, for instance, is a salute to the discerning gourmand: char-grilled salmon atop fresh pasta, tossed with herb butter, lemon juice and Romano cheese. Naturally, such longtime favorites as lasagna make their way to many tables as well. What enhances the effect rendered by the entrees is the muted atmosphere - one perfect for impressing a first date or closing a business deal. Service is so exceptional that Maria's should be considered a benchmark for other restaurants. End the meal with chocolate salami (don't worry, it's really dessert), bananas Foster or lemon ice.
