Reviews of Marta's

Marta's has been here since only 1995, but it seems much longer than that. When you walk into this Czech restaurant - located in an old house in an old neighborhood - it's as if you've left the life you've known and entered 1956 somewhere else. The tiny place, with nine tables and 15 bar stools, offers homemade European standards like tender Wiener schnitzel, tangy sauerbraten, hearty goulash and delicate chicken paprikash. Side dishes are just like those your grandmother made (if she was Czech, that is) and include slices of a dumpling that must be the size of an NFL football; a mountain of spaetzle; and a sweet-and-sour sauerkraut, for people who've always thought they didn't like sauerkraut. Several Czech beers are offered, as are homemade desserts like strudels and palatchinka (a fruit-filled crÉpe).
