Always had great meals and great service. Hope it reopens soon. Sad to see that a lot of the reviewers here are disgruntled employees fired for being slackers and sub-standard competitors who feel the need to slander a fine restuarant "anonymously." Max's rules!

Food is great, Michelle is great! She has personally delivered food to my house during the week of my wedding to make my life easier. I love the mish mosh soup! Anyone who doesn't like this place is crazy!

I agree with most reviews here. The food used to be out of this world. We used to eat there weekly. Now the food is lousy, sloppy prepared, and the servers are mean. We tried it again last weekend (fourth time we have given it a second chance) and my wifes Judy Grill was burned to a crisp and then covered by at least 4 slices of cheese to hide it....classy. Unfortunately what used to be amazing has now become a dud. There are plenty of other sandwich shops right around the corner that treat you good and deliver good food!! Too Bad for Max's.

I used to be an employee of Maxs. I was treated very well. Michelle expects employees to be capable and competent, anything less is unacceptable. The kitchen was very clean, the food is out of this world, and Michelle ran her place like a professional. Plus, shes gorgeous! Stop hatin' everybody, Max's and Michelle hopefully are'nt going anywhere for a long time!

Why all the nasty reviews????
Seriously folks if you complain about the food here, you don't know what good sandwiches taste like, try to go downtown cleveland and get the same food and customer service.
Someitmes service is tough, cause so may people, the place is often packed.
People are nice, never been rude. so far never a bad sandwich, and the desserts, so much to choose from and desire, yes a bit pricey but to me OH YES!!!!!!
Great Taste!!!
Been going there for years

Well here's Uzi's update. I hit the place now once a week and the club wrap has returned to it's old standard --with meat... It's excellent. We hope that the Czarina has got the message.... The wait staff esp the older blonde gal who is so very nice and does a super job stays to course at Max's...
Cleveland and River need all the good place to eat as they can get. If one does not keep hight standards the place will surely die... So here's to Max's, things are better....

It's me again from Bay Village (sue).
Visit Maxi's Deli and decide for yourself.
I continue to visit Maxi's and never experience a small portion or a bad attitude.
I wonder if these bad reviews are from disgruntled employees........?

Jason, I'm sorry it's entitled, not intitled. I've had good and bad meals at Max's and anyone I've known who has worked for the owner has horror stories, which makes me want to eat elsewhere. The food is ok and the desserts beautiful. The ambience is a turn-off - looks like nothing has been updated or cleaned for years. Corned beef - deli style - lots of meat and a bit of heart burn. It's just what you'd expect - ok. Jason, I'll bet you're the owner in disguise and you're "intitled" to blowing your own horn. It's just an ok place to eat or order take out and a horrible place to work, apparently.

A few weeks after getting a pink worth of Turkey on the Club Wrap I ordered it again and again instead of the typical 40% meat, it was 90% romain lettice and a pink of turkey.
Max's Deli has been taken over! I cannot say it any other way. To sell a wrap and not call it a veggie warp is lie and I have reported them to the BBB.

I'm baffled with the negative reviews. I've eaten there for years and it's always good. The corn beef sandwich is huge, in my opinion too huge. They also have great healthy choices in addition to some big burgers and wonderful desserts. The COOKIES are beautiful and they taste good. Only one time was the service ever slow for me.

I thought I would go back & try the corn beef sandwich again. It turned out to be a mistake. Once again, definitely not worth it! The amount of meat you get on the sandwich is a disgrace for the price. For a real corn beef sandwich you better go someplace else.

Well after last week's surprise of getting a pinky fingerworth of turkey on my Club Wrap @ Max's Deli in Rocky RiverI went back to see if it was a fluke. So today I order itagain...
Results: I got a pinky finger worth of turkey --againand unlike the typical 30-40% turkey meat.
I sent it back and said that's two for two in as many weeks.I ordered the cornbeef hash instead.
So the regime has changed how they do business at Max's.
Sort of "subject to change without notice." Alsothey have almost a totally new server staff and somenew dude with a tie on who appears to be cracking thewimp.
Sad, very sad no wonder they're looking for more server staff..

I had the chicken pasta and 1/2 of the buffalo chicken wrap. I have been ordering take-out for about a year and always enjoyed my food. But my last order gave me confirmed horrible food poisoning. I have not been back since. Service was always good and fast. Now that I am anti, I think that the desserts are overpriced and not as fresh as I would like. For GREAT west-side desserts Joes in River is awesome.

We're all intitled to an opinion. I just saw another side than some I guess. I really dont see the point of going back and forth, I just hate to see someone get flamed over a 30 second perceived bad experience. All I know is that Max's rocks, and they helped me out on more than one occasion. I met some really cool people, and some lifelong friends working there.

I COMPLETELY agree with Erin!!! The food is wonderful, but the owner needs an attitude adjustment. The "Now hiring" sign will never be pulled down as long as she's there. I rarely go there and see the same server's still working there. I have had quite a few friends work there, so I know all the horror story's about working for Michelle, and what goes on behind the scenes.. The best part is that they make you buy your "uniform" along with all the other necessities you need to wait on tables.

I'm not sure how Erin gathered such a strong opinion about the owner in such a short time. I'm not even sure how she knew she was dealing with the owner and not making a wrong assumption. I actually worked for her, and she treated me very fairly. Max's contributes a lot in terms of being an employer to many folks in the Cleveland community. I say hat's off to Max's and Michelle. Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to get back to Ohio for some triple chocolate torte.

Food and service was excellent. I had a Smoked Turkey Reuben that was to die for. The server was very knowledgable and friendly. The owner on the other had tried to get some desserts for me and had no idea how to ring me up. I also observed her dealing with some of the employees in which she was very demeaning and rude. This made the atmosphere in my opinion go way down. Creating a negative work environment makes everyone unhappy. Good food, bad owner!

West Side, East Side and everything in between: No matter which part of Cleveland they call home, people know Max's Deli as one of the town's premier sandwich spots. A perennial placeholder on Live's Best Deli list, the restaurant lures patrons with pastrami, corned beef, ham and turkey (have them all at once - Max doesn't judge), served with sides such as coleslaw, potato pancakes and matzo ball soup. There are less traditional offerings as well, including a variety of vegetarian sandwiches (go with the grilled portabella mushroom sandwich, served on a kaiser roll with pesto mayonnaise, leaf lettuce, tomato and red onion). And don't skip dessert - Max's wins acclaim for those, too. If you're feeling full, go for the light and bright lemon bar; those with a serious sweet tooth should head straight for the cheesecake.
