Authentic & Amazing Food
A vegetarian's and a meat lover's paradise! I have been able to substitute tofu in every dish I've ordered. The curries are fabulous, particularly the masaman, yellow, and red. The pineapple fried rice has lots of flavor and is a good choice for somebody just getting to know Khmer or Thai cuisine. Know Khmer? Practice with the waitstaff.

Best Thai in Cleveland
You will never leave hungry. One dish EASILY feeds two people for around $13-20 - a steal for the quality. The Pad Thai is phenomenal, especially because the chicken and shrimp are tender and not over-cooked, which I've experienced at other restaurants. The Jade Noodle is another spicy favorite, as is the Mango Curry which is generous with thick-cuts of mango and pineapple. They also offer a variety of Bubble Tea flavors, although I've only had the mango (which was great). The decor is all right - nothing to write home about, and sometimes the service is on the slow side, but they're always extremely polite and are fantastic with take-out orders.

Great Food, Bad Service Tonight, Unfortunately
We ate here for the first time and really enjoyed the food. I would certainly recommend it. We had the the Thai Curry Puff Appetizers, Tom Kha Kai soup, Pad Thai and a Cambodian dish with pineapple, basil, pumpkin, green beans, eggplant, coconut milk (sorry can't remember the name). The appetizer was very tasty but not very hot. The soup was excellent. Our two year old daughter loved it. The pad thai seemed a little greasy to me, but the overall flavor was excellent. Finally, our Cambodian dish was perfect. A beautiful blend of flavors with plenty of vegetables.
I must add, however, that the service was pretty bad. It was extremely slow (more than 10 minutes for our beers). I found (by chomping down on it) a piece of what seemed like a tine from a plastic fork in my food. Our waitress disappeared about the time we were ready to leave so it took much too long to get our leftovers (good portions for the price!)and check. Perhaps they were short staffed tonight.
As we drove a fair distance to try Mekong River, it may be a while before we go back, but a craving for their food may draw us in sooner than I think.

Good Thai food reasonably priced
While the decor is badly in need of updating, this place has great food. We've been here a number of times and really enjoyed both vegetatian and meat dishes. Service is decent, prices are reasonable.

the BEST!
I am a long time customer of this restaurant and have enjoyed every item ordered. My absolute favorites are: Mekong String Beans - crisp green beans and your choice of meat, seafood or tofu in the best peanut sauce ever, Red Tom Kha Kai soup - not your average coconut soup! This one has just the right amount of spice, lots of assorted fresh mushrooms and tons of chicken. It's a huge bowl for just under $6.00 and finally Mango and sticky rice - the portion is twice as large as the other Thai restaurant up the street for the same price and better quality. The menu is very large and the prices are reasonable. The decor is a little shabby and the bathroom is down steps in the basement area but it's the food that brings me back time and time again. yum!

Great, and I mean GREAT, food
WOW! Mekong River creates amazing dishes with an abundance of veggies. Asian cuisine commonly has lots of vegetables, but Mekong really does it. I swear, every dish has at least 5 veggies. And don't worry, there's plenty of meat in there too. I've just never had a restuarant combine foods like they do. HIGHLY recommend.

It's significant that certain southeast Asian restaurants' menus list the spices first in the descriptions of their dishes (then vegetables, then meat) - it's the reverse of most Western menus, and it's this attention to flavors that makes the cuisine of these countries so good. Take the Samlaw Majue Kroeung: It's described as ""ground lemon grass, lemon leaves, garlic, galanga, turmeric & tamarind sauce, with celery, eggplants, jalapeûo peppers, tomatoes and basil leaves,"" and then your choice of chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, mussels, scallops, lamb or tofu. There are about 100 items on the menu, and they're mostly like that - interesting, unusual, flavorful, fresh; some have noodles, some are soups, some are salads and some are curry dishes with a choice of five types of curry.
