this is a simple review to read......food -> delicious! atmosphere -> contemporary! service -> THE WORST!!! the wonderful food is diminished by the amount of RUDE, ARROGANT, SNOTTY server & hostess. totally acting like THEY'RE doing YOU the favor! contacted the owner....he has stated that he has heard this before, but that's how things go! there are too many other GREAT restaurants in cleveland that have great food AND GREAT service! i advise you to TRY ANOTHER PLACE AND STAY AWAY FROM PARALLAX!!

Halloween I had beers at the Tree House (good beer and not expensive) and went on the Parallax for dinner. The calamari fritti appetizer for less than $10 was super, even better than at Salmon Dave's. Then the hanger steak which was absolutely superb (ca $25). The a nice wine, generous pour, was only $7. The whole thing was delicious and appropriately priced. Elizabeth, the wine guru at Grady's Market, loves the place too and says she usually has a seafood dish which has always been consistently excellent.

I met some friends for a drink at Lolita and we were deciding where to eat. I love Lolita but decided to try something new. The garlic crusted Mahi with mac and cheese was so bland! There was no garlic in the crust and my friends tried the mac and cheese. We all agreed it was store bought and they threw some frozen peas in it. Terrible. The dark sauce that accompanied the plate did not compliment the fish at all. It too was bland and belongs more with a red meat. We shuld have stuck with a great thing-Lolita!!

My wife and I recently went to Parallax and after hearing all the great reviews we have to agree that it was terrific! The sacllops and the blue nose bass were to die for and the pricing was reasonable. However, when will people realize that smoke and food/wine don't mix. When will resturants/Cleveland/Ohio get it. We'll be back once it goes smokeless

If you are in to meat and potatoes, this may not be your spot. I read in amazement two unfavorable reviews here and I wonder which restaurant those people actually visited. To each their own, I guess. My fiancee and I have dined at Parallax no less than 20 times (and ordered their sushi another dozen or so times). We are foodies. We are fortunate to travel a lot and make a point to visit the best, hottest restaurants wherever we go... New York, San Fran, LA, Chicago, Miami, etc. It's one of our favorite things to do. We ate at the famous and renowned fusion restaurant, Nobu, in Manhattan last summer. It was fantastic, but as far as contemporary cuisine with a fusion influence, we think Parallax stands up to any other. Their sushi is the best in Cleveland, made fresh to order - if you sit at the bar you can watch their sushi artist turning it out at an amazing pace. But don't pigeon-hole Parallax as a sushi place. The short rib will blow you away. The lamb chops are wonderful. The pork tenderoin is outstanding. And all the seafood dishes are excellent. If you want a great burger, by all means, go to Southside... it's a wonderful bar. But if you are in the mood for some of Ohio's most creative contemporary cuisine, Parallax will not disappoint.

Went for dinner with 2 friends, one of whom was from Chicago. We all loved it and our big city friend was very impressed. Our server, Elizabeth, was outstanding! Extremely articulate, accommodating and attentive (but not obnoxiously so). Great wine/martini list...bar was hopping...and the lobster spring rolls are a must have! Definitely worth every penny. Stop in to Southside (across the street) if you aren't ready to head home yet. So cute.

We went to Parallax for a girls night out and all agree it is very, "Sex in the City." The atmosphere was contemporary yet warm and personal. The wine and martini list was extensive so we ordered cosmopolitans to start. The lobster roll and spicey tuna roll were perfect blends of fresh fish and oriental spices. However, the chocolate walnut tart was a bit dry the chocolate tasted well done. Never fear though, the greek yogurt and fresh fruit dessert was quite decadent. The price was a ittle above average, but was well earned.

Great decor and very comfortable seating. Loved the menu selections and everything we tried was fantastic. Something feels fresh about this restaurant. I had a great time and it seems others do too... the place is packed every weekend. Welcome to Tremont Parallax - keep up the good work!!!

An unfortunate eveningJune 23, 2005

A Bad Experience. We left the house in route to "South Side", the place across the street from Parallax - but South Side was too crowded so we decided to try something new. In my opinion, the space doesn't fit what they are trying to be - some sort of ultra trendy but upscale eatery. I'm sorry but Parallax falls short. The tiny dining room got uncomfortably loud as the restaurant filled up, and the menu is typed in small print on several pages and presented to you on a clipboard. I didn't get the clipboard idea, maybe its some new trend that I don't know about? Aside from the undesirable atmosphere, the food is simply not worth the high prices. The ($10) 6-piece california roll appetizer that lacked flavor (they may had made it up earlier?) was made worse by the very-salty low grade soy sauce. We ordered vegetable tempura ($17.50) and the soft-shell crab "special" deep fried and coated with Japanese bread crumbs($25.00) was disapointing. The delicate flavor of the crab was overpowered by the bread crumbs and I think the kitchen left the poor guys in the fryer too long because I got two dark brown whole crabs that were dry and tasted like a bunch of crispy breading. I think you get the idea, this place is to be avoided if you want a relaxing evening out with atmosphere and food quality that matches aggressive pricing. (Our bill came to $71.00 for two entrees, 2 drinks, and 1 appetizer). Recomend Blue Point Grill (Downtown), Salmon Dave's (Westlake), or Players in Lakewood for consistently great sea food, a much nicer atmosphere, and gracious service all well worth the price. Also try Sushi Rock (Downtown) for a more vibrant atmosphere and very good seafood/sushi.

OK, so the food was good--not very good, but just good. I liked the atmosphere Spartan and contemporary. The service was adequate save for one major flaw: our server never told us of any Daily Specials, of which there were several. This rather ruined our entire dining experience. And since it was very early and we were the only ones in the restaurant, I find it inexcusable. We only found out about the Specials when another table was seated and a different server was rattling off all of them. And when I asked the server (when Dessert Menus were presented to us) about Specials, the server never apologized, actually making it sound like it was my fault since I had quickly asked him questions about certain menu items. No, I won't go back. There are too many very fine seafood restaurants with better food and service.

No trace of the former Kosta's remains at the corner of West 11th and Fairfield. Instead, the sleek, urbane surroundings of Parallax Restaurant & Lounge provide the perfect backdrop for chef Zachary Bruell's contemporary cuisine. The bar and sushi bar face a row of booths; the dining room is elegant yet relaxed, with butcher-block tabletops, graphite banquettes and subtle lighting. Served on simple white china, the food dazzles. Seared scallop salad stars a tender trio of scallops backed by red and yellow tomatoes, baby arugula, bacon and white French dressing. Bruell's Thai seafood stew is perfumed by coconut, curry and ginger, and topped with crisp rice noodles and tender haricots verts. Asian-style beef brisket arrives as nearly translucent slices served with shiitake mushroom farfel (tiny, tasty dumplings). Pommes frites are a tangle of crisp shoestring-thin strands. For dessert, banana napoleon layers buttery pastry with custard, while a simple dessert of fresh berries with satin-rich Greek yogurt and a drizzle of honey is luscious. The restaurant's name suggests a change of direction or perception. In this case, change is very, very good.

Parallax unparalleledMarch 09, 2005

We had dinner there this evening, for the first time, and it was wonderful. The crab encrusted salmon was moist and very tasty. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was crisp on the outside and perfectly cooked inside. The sushi was just as we like it. The martini menu is very nice. The pineapple upside down one was a nice blend of flavors. We highly recommend the banana macadamia nut bread pudding and the raspberry sorbet. The service was attentive, yet not overbearing. Upscale but priced reasonably. We definitely will be back!

Food, fun and service-OH MY!February 17, 2005

If your looking for good food, great service and a atmosphere like no other then Parallax is the place to go! Trendy but relaxed! Try the chicken with the pomme frittes or maybe the mai-mai with the corn salsa (spicy and yummy!) It was great with my husband and even better with a group (we all shared!) Drinks? If you love those blue cheese stuffed olives then try a martini(they have a great list!)and they have the only SUSHI in Tremont! Check it out it is well worth the money!
