Hit or miss

I love this place! I hate this place! MOST OF THE TIME THE FOOD IS FABULOUS, EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE YOU WOULD RATHER PAY FOR A ROOT CANAL. My favorite is their mussels and clam bucket on the appetizer menu with a bucket of crab leg pieces- "The Appetizer Dinner" Pick 2 appetizers and get it as a dinner, for $19.95, including salad and side. AND THEN THERE IS THE DINNER ROLLS WITH CINNOMON HONEY BUTTER! YUM YUM YUM... Even the ducks and fish think so... You get to toss your leftover rolls to them.. and watch them fight for a bite... too much fun!

Not sure why the locals love it

Iwas recently in town on a business trip and the owner took us to Pickle Bill's for dinner. While I can say it certainly has some humorous decorum, I would not recommend the kids visit the men's room. The server was in a spat with a neighboring server, and while it was humorous, the missing entre's and such were less than funny. Some parts of our meal never did arrive. The appetizer was fried to a crisp, the steak burned, the lobstertail bland....I fail to see the attraction, and at those prices - even McDonald's has better flavor.

Food was good... however beware of

First I can confirm there are pictures of topless women in the MEN's restroom. It is a very eclectic restaurant, which is part of the draw of going there. I have been there a few times over the summer and must say, there's nothing like having a beer overlooking the view of the Grand River at Pickle Bills. The only complaint that I have is all the times I've been there this summer I have been served by a gentleman named Tom J. The first time I visited there I was there for fathers day. I have no complaints of the food however, Tom J made it very clear that he was new (he told us it was his 9th day working and just came off a construction job). He had to check with the kitchen on a few items was very personable and we left him a substantial tip. A few weeks later my sister visited Pickle Bills for dinner and again had Tom J as her waiter. She said the dinner was alright but, she found it weird that two weeks later he mentioned he was again unfamiliar with the menu and that he had only been on the job for nine days. After hearing this, the next day I was in the area and had to check this out for myself. Ironically enough, I was in luck and it was the same waiter! I was there to just have an order of sliders (only $8), a beer and I would be on my way. I asked Tom if they have any beer specials, he looked perplexed and pointed to the flyer on the table. I ordered the sliders and asked for them plain. He said he had to "check with the kitchen" to make sure I could get plain burgers (they can do it at mcdonald's I didn't see it would be an issue there) So ten minutes later he confirmed that the kitchen made plain sliders. He apologized and said it was "only his ninth day"!!!!!!!! I have worked in the food industry for a good amount of time during my youth and believe hard work and a positive attitude will get you the tips you need to get by, but lying about how long you have been at a specific position is out of line. I believe in tipping well new employees, but if Tom J gives you a line about him being new, please don't believe that line from him.

I LOVE THIS PLACE !

I have been going to Pickle Bills for years and i have never been disappointed. The fish and crab is always fresh and the prime rib is outstanding! I love all the art work on the walls and all the strange statues. I have never had a bad experience at Pickle Bills and will continue to dine there.

My husband and I went there for dinner Saturday night. We were celebrating. our good fortune from Presque Isle Casino. Big disappointment. I ordered. the perch dinner. It was tasteless. My husband. ordered. the seafood sampler. The perch had no taste. The schrimp tasted. like it came from a box of Gorton's frozen schrimp. The clam chowder tasted like potato soup with bacon. Where's the clams? Big disappointment for $76.00. Bring on Red Lobster.

NOT JUST A MEAL, A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!!!

We all traveled an hour and a half so I could give our entire family of 14 a delicious dinner and fun occasion!! We had great appitisers and beverages out over the water followed by delicious crab leg and prime rib dinners served by Ashley inside at a huge table looking out over the water. A magician treated everyone to his amazing tricks and balloon hats before our meal was served. It was everything I could have possibly hoped for. Thank you Pickle Bill's for the best birthday ever. We will be back again and again!!!

After reading some reviews I was a bit reluctant to come but I glad I did. Brought my whole family and it was a great experience. The restaurant was clean, the food was great and the service from Phil was impeccable. It's been 25 years since the last time I dined here and it was as good as I remembered. Can't wait to return. Thanks again Phil.

The worst seafood in Northeast Ohio

This is the third time I have gone there in 4 years, and now I remember why. The food was absolutely horrible. 10 bucks for a paper cone of calamari that was so overcooked it was nearly inedible. Walleye was undercooked as were the scallops. The preparation and presentation was akin to a public school cafeteria setting. Perch was tough and dry. 25 dollars for 1 4x4 inch piece of walleye, 2 small perch fillets, 2 meager scallops and 6 shrimp that tasted like they came out of a commerical freezer package. French fries were those overdone "hollow" ones...cold within 3 minutes and dry. If this had not been a fathers day gathering...I would have refused to pay or done something on the spot. Clearly, those that have anything good to say about the place are locals that have never left the immeidate area and are totally clueless. What the place needs is to burn down again...make room for something else. I will say the the service was outstanding.

HORRIBLE!!!

Went to Pickle Bills for the first time last night and I have to say, how in the h*ll has that place lasted in business as long as it has?? The food was atrocious!! Clearly a frozen meal that had been placed under a broiler to thaw out. I never had fish served in plain water and all for the wonderful low price of $26. That's a crime against humanity. A fish filet from McDonald's has more flavor and that costs less than a 5 spot. Dinner for four was $140 and all the meals were flat out awful. Oh, and did I mention the fried dough tasted like bug spray? Well it did and we all kind of looked at each other like "they can't be serious with this stuff" Well, lesson learned on our part, that place just sucks in plain english!!

Pickle Bill's riding the wave to the bottom

I would have to reitterate the feelings of most of the other reviewers. I just returned from my LAST outing to Bill's. There will not be another. I, as the others, have seen this place decline over the years but tonight really hit rock bottom. Smashed fly guts on the wall of the booth, burned out overhead lights, sticky tabletops, grimy broken down knick-nacks everywhere and then there was the food; the cocktail shrimp were mushy and tastless, while the fried shrimp were over breaded and over cooked. The sausage had a bad smell and a rancid taste like the meat had been left out too long before cooking. For less than the $30.00 price tag you might excuse a slip here or there but on the whole there was far more worse than better. Bill's was always pricy but atleast in the old days it was clean and the food was fare. Sadly my last several experiences were very poor on both accounts.

not what its cracked up to be!

I have been to Pickle Bill's about 3 times. The last time I was there I ordered crab cakes. They were small and very dry. Plus it is very overpriced. I think you pay for the view of the river. Our waitress was very nice and attentive, though. After all, its not her fault the food is bad and overpriced. I would probably not go back.

not so good

I decided to give this place another try, as I went last year and the food was less than desirable, this time around was no better. I had an entree that included a whitefish, scallops, mussels, lobster tail, shrimp, potato, and green beans. It looked good on print, but that's where it ended. The lobster tail and fish were tasteless and bland, scallops rubbery, and mussels tiny. The shrimp was pallatable. The green beans were not fresh and tasted canned, I asked our server if they were canned and she replied that she'd rather not know, I think I know. My girlfriend had coconut shrimp that tasted as if they were frozen, not fresh. All in all bad eating experience, poor food quality at high prices, definitely won't be returning.

Do not purchase online gift certificates!

Expecting a printable coupon for a last-minute present after buying a $50 gift certificate online, I got the feedback that they would mail it and it would take 1 week (!!!) to arrive. After calling the restaurant, they told me that they couldn't help me and to "maybe get back to me". This is misleading from their website. Seriously considering to not going there anymore!

fun place to go

I like pickle bills as it is a fun place to go especially the cool location right on the reiver. It is not perfect everytime I go and I have been there many times but it is consistently good in my view. No restaraunt is perfect but they are about as good as I have seen other then the very high price places around chagrin falls.

Notice Downhill movement 2 years ago.

The prices were going up but the value and quality of the food was going down. The waleye was not fully cooked. The quality of the crab leg was going down. Every time we eat there my wife had a valid complaint. I got to the point were we stop eating there 2 years ago. I just wanted to check back to see if they changed for the good, maybe not. Its sad that Joe's in Euclid went down so fast because the one in orlando is at the top of my list of seafood restaurants in orlando Florida.

Valentines Day MUST!!!

We went to Pickle Bill's last Valentines Day (2009). 4 people went. We ordered the all you can eat crab legs. You can get it with all you can eat prime rib, a seafood combo or some other choices also. I had the crab legs and prime rib. It is truly all you can eat. Our experience was great! Great service, they showed up non stop to bring more plates, napkins, crab legs etc. The crab legs were very good. The prime rib was not the best I've ever had but good. I am craving crab legs again and we have decided that Pickle Bills is our new Valentines Day tradition! A bit pricey but one of the few restaurants that are TRULY worth what you pay!!!

GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE

This was the second time we had been to Pickle Bills in a month. First was with a group of 12 and next just three of us. Food was fabulous. Service was great and everything was clean and nice. We got to meet the manager, Justin, he was doing a great job and checking on the tables. Our friend from Naples, Florida said it was the best seafood restaurant she had been to. Thanks Pickle Bills, keep up the good job!

Who are these people?

I have been going to Pickle Bill's for at least ten years now, and can't figure out what these other reviewers are talking about. I can't seem to stay away from the lobster and it has always been prepared exactly the way I like it - steamed and served with lots of butter. I get an order of blue points and they are always fresh and fat with juice. The sides (usually baked and salad) are always hot and fresh. The matre'd is one of my ex-students, so the service has always been excellent, and we eat on the deck which makes the atmosphere enjoyable. I am truly sorry that the above reviewers had a bad experience.

Dirty filthy tables. Fruit flies breeding in napkin/silverware bucket!! Last few times i've been there with my kids, have been flat out disgusting!! Our baked potato and corn on the cob were days old to say the least. This place has took a turn for the worst. I will not eat there again as i am afraid of possible food poisoning!! I don't know how this place operates with such filth. I can't wait til the day this place has competition on the river. Maybe then they will clean it up and justify thier outrageous prices.

dirty, greasy & dismissive manager, Justin

We are regular customers at Pickle Bill's but have noticed over the past couple months that the cleanliness, food quality and service have declined. Even so, we've always been good customers and never registered any formal complaints, that is, until this evening. Tonight was our final visit to Pickle Bill's. When I sat down at my table I felt a clump under the heel of my shoe. When I had to kick it loose, I noticed it was a half-eaten cinnamon bun. Looking down at the bun, I couldn't help but notice how filthy is was under the table--crumpled napkins, food spilled, a half eaten bun, and other debris. It just felt very dirty. The waitress was pleasant but somewhat clueless. I asked her if the crab cakes could be prepared with a minimal amount of butter or no butter at all and whether all sauces could come on the side. She returned and told me that they had to use some butter but that they could use as minimal amount as possible. When my food arrived at the table, the crab cakes were dripping with butter and the sauce was all over the plate. When I brought the problem to the attention of the waitress, she gave me a dumb look and suggested the grease was wine. I asked her to feel it b/c I had grease all over my fingers. She returned and told me that they could not remake a special order and that they used as little grease as possible. This really didn't make any sense to me b/c I've eaten crab cakes there before and they weren't swimming in grease in the past. The waitress never returned and never brought the manager over. I was left with no food to eat. I had to go find a manager. Meanwhile, I was very calm and reasonable in speaking to the both the waitress and the manager. But once again, I was dealing with more incompetence. The manager told me that he was standing over the cook when he prepared my food and that he didn't hardly use any butter. I asked the manager if he saw the plate that was covered in butter and he said, "No". He made no attempt to rectify the situation and would not remake the crab cakes. By this time my husband was finished eating and the manager told me that he could bring a menu if I wanted to order something else and of course pay for it. He never brought a menu so I sat at the table waiting until the waitress came by again 5 mins later. At that time my husband and I were ready to leave. We decided to go to Cracker Barrel restaurant instead and I got chicken tenders and green beans prepared just the way I ordered them. We had a really good experience at Cracker Barrel.

the food was ok - however if you have little boys stay away from the men's bathroom as there are pictures of naked ladies above the sink. So much for monitoring what my son is exposed to - when you let them go to the bathroom in a public place and they see it all anyways. The staff and management dont seem to find a problem with it. We will not be going back there.
