Players fans for the past 15 years
We have eaten at players for over 15years now and LOVE it. Our latest favorite is the strawberry tempura. The menu and specials are always interesting. We have never had a bad meal here. The restaurant is a bit too loud on weekend evenings; otherwise, the atmosphere is very pleasant. Interesting decor and good lighting.

Overrated!!!
Hello, all, we were new in town and were told about this place by several new neighbors, how much they love it here, etc. So we went on what seemed like a not busy night (I think it was a Tuesday ), and the staff couldn't have been RUDER, or seemingly "busy"! Our waitress complained about a store or shopping or something at the bar all night, well within ear shot of our table, instead of promptly bringing us our drinks and food, which tasted somehow overheated and undercooked all at once (it was halibut, I think). EVERYTHING we ordered took forever, and was delivered with a side of "attitude". OH, and with it not even being busy, we were seated at what I'd guess was like the worst table, small and in the back of the front room, which made me wonder if we were underdressed in him khakis and me in a skirt? But no one else seemed to be better dressed, so I don't know. We were going to go back another time, you know, to give it another shot, but we found a different place about a mile? west of there that we just LOVE, so we never felt the need to be twice disappointed.
Since the review guidelines here say to talk about the "atmosphere", I WILL SAY the place was pretty cute, I love the artwork in the bathroom, but maybe it was a little dirty?

The name may be Players, but the folks who run this Lakewood establishment are serious about food. Chef Anthony Romano updates the menu every few months, offering such ambitious fare as a mandarin orange-glazed Muscovy duck breast starter with field greens, fried shiitakes and hazelnuts in an orange-cranberry vinaigrette; molten blue-cheese-encrusted beef tenderloin with horseradish whipped potatoes, apple-pear chutney and balsamic syrup; and prosciutto-and-Asiago-stuffed Tanglewood chicken breast with potato gnocchi in a sage-scented volute. A European atmosphere prevails in both the bar and the dining area, thanks to textured walls, warm woods and muted lighting from halogen spots and wall sconces.
