Hair Pasta
A co-worker of mine is a somewhat regular at Ponte Vecchio. He asks me to join him and a friend for lunch. This was my first visit to the restaurant. I order a ham & cheese panini with pasta salad and a coke.
The waitress knows his drink as she has served him many a time. She brings it to the table BEFORE she even came to our table to take our order. NICE! We get our food, my sandwich was ok, pasta was good until I found a nice black course hair in it. Meanwhile, my co-worker goes though his iced tea drink and another is placed before him without asking.
I on the other hand never had the waitress place another coke in front of me or even ASK for that matter. As I sit at our table toward the end of our lunch, I look accross the way at a couple of booths that are pre set for dining. There are crumbs on the table directly to the side of where we are sitting. I look at the booth behind it. Crumbs on that table too. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wasn't impressed with this fine dining experience. The atmosphere was nice, but the dirty tables and the hair in the pasta made me lose my appetite. From the other comments I have read, I'm not the only one with service issues!

Great Food, Spoiled by Apathetic Service
Went here for the first time with my wife for our anniversary. Great scenery and wonderful food spoiled by completely apathetic service by our waiter. Waited 20 minutes before being even approached by our waiter (no excuse for this as the place was only 1/4 full at best when we were there). It got worse. Ordered a glass of merlot and my wife innocently asked for a glass of White Zinnfandel. After sniffing arrogantly that they didn't carry WF, he just walked off! No mention or recommendation of an alternative! It carried like that throughout the night with dog slow service. Food, as mentioned above, was great--including a wonderful wine sauce on the steaks. However, given the plentiful supply of high end restaurants WITH good service, there is no reason to give Ponte Vecchio a second look.

Desperately seeking the hot new dining destination? Drive past St. Malachi's (West 25th and Detroit), go through a gate and stop before the curled iron railings of the old Superior Viaduct end above the river. You're now at the glass and sandstone home of Ponte Vecchio Ristorante Italiano. This building once thrived as a metal-spinning plant; now, servings of perfect pasta spin around the forks of appreciative diners. The view of Cleveland's bridges from Ponte Vecchio's wall of windows is stunning, and so is the food. A scampi timbale with avocado comes bound with a curl of carrot. Spaghetti in creamy tomato sauce is lightened with a toss of crisp julienned vegetables, and chef Fabio Danzo's pappardelle with white cannellini beans might be the world's sexiest pasta e fagioli. Fish and meat dishes also receive careful preparation and beautiful presentation. Pasta comes in two sizes; order the smaller to save room for dessert, including glorious house-made tortes, sorbets and ice cream. Service is professional with a continental flair.
