We love the Raintree! We recently moved to the area and were looking for live music. We've enjoyed excellent meals and great jazz even though the service is a bit slow. We've been there three times now and have enjoyed ourselves a lot! The peppercorn steak is my favorite! I think it's a great place for 30-somethings to go for a romantic evening.

This place was likely a fine-dining destination two decades ago. Unfortunately, after it split from its sister restaurant NightTown, it apparently went downhill.
If you like a lot of smoke even in the non-smoking area you have found a home. The food quality is all over the page. My wife and I enjoy Lobster Bisque--we know that they use white wine as sometimes it's Lobster Wine. They also like Tabasco Sauce because sometimes it's Lobster Tabasco. When the bisque needs stretching it becomes Lobster Flour.
The saving grace is live Jazz.
For service, how about having the server actually insert the corkscrew through the foil on covering the cork then wonder why the cork won't come out? On a later occasion the same server (pleasant young lady) attempted to pull the foil top off the cork leaving everything else. Another server didn't have the strength (or skill) to fully insert the screw into the cork so when she attempted to remove the cork the bottle skittered across the table scattering glassware and the cork broke in half. After the server got the other half of the cork out we enjoyed bits of cork in the wine.
The kitchen cannot keep up with the orders so service is really strange. Too, it appears that there is a lot of turnover of servers or there are a lot of part-timers because one doesn't always get all of the items ordered or even the bread.
All of that said, if you're over 50 and under 85 and like live jazz this place is better than Bob Evans and an I-pod.

Wood paneling, latticework and old-fashioned paintings in ornate frames create a distinctive atmosphere at this longtime Chagrin Falls favorite. The menu is equally appealing, with a range of offerings that include a smoked salmon appetizer (with capers, rye bread, cornichons and a dill cream sauce), scallops Parisienne (dry-packed sea scallops broiled in garlic butter with lemon and sherry) and the Raintree's take on the Dublin lawyer (lobster meat sauteed in a mildly seasoned butter with green onions, mushrooms, Irish whiskey and cream). The filet Oscar is topped with crabmeat and finished with bearnaise sauce, and Asian salmon comes with a tasty Thai sweet and tangy chile sauce. The house dressing is popular here as well: Creamy Italian with dry blue cheese keeps diners coming back for more.
