Wife was in the mood for Indian cuisine and having tried out other Indian restaurants around Cleveland, Saffron Patch was on our list. Mapquest gave us the wrong directions yet again and when we called the restaurant to ask for directions, the lady at the reception was at a loss...c'mon, every one should know some landmark near to their workplace. This lady was a lame duck at giving directions. All she managed to tell us that they were 5 miles south of I-271 (some direction, that!!). We called again after some searching and, God save us, the same lady answered. After 10 minutes, the good sense of calling someone else, prevailed on her and we managed to find our way to a big office building. If you call persian style carpets on the walls and on the floor a wonderful setting for an Indian restaurant...this is your place (to me it is just an indication that explicitly states "since - we - spent - so - much - money putting - up - these - oriental - carpets - on - the - wall, - we - would - love - to - have - you - pay - through - your - nose - for sub-standard - Indian - fare!!!) These days they pass off anything as Indian Cuisine...it is criminal the way they drum out fancy names and descriptions on the menu while dishing out food that is bland (mind you, the Naan was burnt!), the undertones of the falvors are the same so you know they are using the same base for almost all the dishes and when u leave a 10% tip, a snooty waitress pounces upon you as you leave the door demanding the mandatory 20% tip (how uncouth!!!)....It makes you wish you could throw up your food and give it back saying...20% plus your food....enjoy! Lesson: Stay away from Saffron Patch...there are better Indian restaurants elsewhere.

If you want next day Stomach problems!January 31, 2006

We ordered Samosas in this restaurant and what we got was horrible stale oily smelled thing! I think, It was made weeks before and probably served microwave hot! The taste was pathetic but I was more concerned with future stomach problems. When I complained to the attendant she called the chef and he bluntly refused of any smell without smelling it. Not only they were arrogant but also they said that even if we did not eat those stale samosas they would still charge us the money. The reshmi kebabs were over burnt. You will have to swallow all the carbon that comes with the kebabs in order to eat them! Next day I was in trouble with my stomach and I made a resolution to never visit that place again in my life even if it is for free!

A chunky office building near a busy Chagrin Boulevard intersection seems like a strange place for an Indian restaurant, but once you find your way into the parking lot, the glowing neon elephant in the window will let you know you're in the right place. Saffron Patch's tiny bar area (it can comfortably accommodate a party of two or three) opens into a dining room hung with richly patterned rugs and other objects d'art from the Indian subcontinent. The menu is informative and playful, dividing items into categories like ""Vegetarian Love Affair"" (meatless dishes) and ""Wheat Wonder"" (breads). The latter category includes a sensibly sized portion of kheema naan, delicate pita-like bread stuffed with ground lamb and seasoned with chopped coriander and fresh ginger root. Follow that with Indian favorites like chicken tikka, seekh kabob or shrimp tandoor, and you'll likely still have room for kulfi (ice cream) or gulab jamun, a savory fried dessert soaked in flavorful syrup.
