June 03, 2005        Playhouse Square regulars know Acappella as the little Italian place on the corner of 17th and Euclid that serves up reliably good meals workday after workday. But occasional visitors to the theater district may not realize that the lunch spot is also open at night for those hankering for a pre-show plate of linguine and a glass of wine. Operated since 1998 by Karen Heldorfer, Acappella has garnered a loyal following. The menu specializes in veal, chicken and seafood, with one of the most popular dishes being the chicken escarole: medallions of chicken, portabella mushrooms and sauteed escarole in white-wine butter sauce, tossed with penne pasta and pecorino Romano cheese. The authentic Italian recipes came off the boat in 1912, says Chef Eric Paul, who's been at the kitchen's helm for years. Review By:
