RAGU--It's in there.

First time I ever went to Little Italy. I was afraid cause as a black man. I was told it was difficult in the area (racial tension). THAT IS A LIE!!!! The entire community is wonderful. The bakeries smell magnificent and it is difficult to chose where to eat. The service in Trattoria's was better than any restaraunt I have ever went to. The food was so fresh I belive the lettuce was picked from the garden upon my order. The marinara sauce is so delicious I put it on my salad. I will definitely recommend it for any occassion and they are not that expensive. IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY SPENT. If you don't go you will regret it when you die and people in heaven tell you that you should have went.

The Real Thing.....

is what you'll get at Trattorias. You don't feel cramped with this open and comfortable atmosphere. Service was just right! Everyone was friendly. And the food was exceptional!...with enough for lunch the next day! I recommend the eggplant parm. My wife had the chicken parm, both were just right, and the real thing!

Mangia . . .

For those whose little black book is full of restaurants, add this one. Believed that the best Italian was North Beach, SF/CA, but was wrong. Maybe I got lucky but then again, maybe not. Ate alone. Like it that way. Parking in rear essential for this neighborhood. Victoria (well worth a 25% tip) was very fast and knowledgeable. Little things like EVCP olive oil and a dynamite balsamic for the truly authentic italian bread, accompanied by an understated bruschetta spread. (I did birra vs vino, but my business anyway) How totally stereotypical is calamari? But then, like red sauce, if anyone could really do it well, then they would jar it and sell it. (which they do) Anyway, the most delicate squid you'll encounter, rolled in italian breadcrumbs with a paper-thin tempura-like texture, served with a marinara and grated parmesan making you want to slap your grandma. So totally awesome, I decided to really test this little joint. So I asked for a Marsala veal scallopine ala funghi, accompanied by fettucine Alfredo. The menu says scallop veal and mushrooms, thus reflecting the price point and allowing me dessert! Sure I says to myself, this will be funny. Cleveland. Right. The bellhop at the hotel came within an inch of his maker when he reached for my leftovers. The veal, tenderized beyond belief, served in a rich Marsala was the best I have ever had, and I have have had. The Alfredo was truly authentic, texture, slight herb, heavy cream and of course no calories whatsoever. Fabulouso. 2 slight demerits. The garlic cheese bread was mozz. not Parm. Reggiano and very under "garlicked." The espresso was luke warm and oily, not hard-core "Italian want to peel your scalp off" strong, like I like it. But then again, this is Cleveland. But, alas, all was saved. The tierra misu I could now afford came out in an old fashioned ice cream sundae goblet. When coming out of the kitchen, I thought it was a hot fudge sundae for junior. But one spoonful into this puppy shortened its lifespan to within nanoseconds. Inhaling dessert is highly encouraged. So, let me know if you get as lucky as I did, or if this really is the place. - Madone!

The Real Thing

A lively family atmosphere, friendly waiters/waitresses, great food, very good price, and complimentary valet parking (parking isn't easy in Little Italy). The sauce is "the real thing" --they sell their own sauce too. What else can you ask for? The Eggplant Parmesan is to die for. I've been to Trattoria on the Hill twice -- both times excellent atmosphere, food, service and price --it is a gem on the top of Mayfield.

Veal is exceptional.

I've been there twice now, use to be a Mama Santo's regular and heard nothing good about this place. WHAT A SURPRISE when I went as a guest and had the veal, the BEST I've ever eaten. My wife had some scampi and noodle which was good, other had eggplant, I still like the veal! They have a Merlot thats called Ice Mountain or something like that and there is no acid taste and it is SOooooo melow! YUM< Calling to see if their open today or Memorial day, I'm hungry again

Count on it!

Trattoria Roman Gardens is "old reliable" for us. We can always count on good Italian food, reasonably priced, good service and comfortable atmosphere especially in the glass enclosed dining area. Try to be seated in that area if you are seeking a more subdued dining experience. However the formal dining room with tables draped in white linen tablecloths and the more casual outside dining area are nice too depending upon your mood...more people, more jovial. The gnocchi reminds me of my mom's home made. You can't go wrong here!

Northern Ohio Live Magazine

Set in the heart of Little Italy, this local favorite has been featured on Food Network's $40 a Day program, and with good reason: The restaurant serves up hearty, traditional Italian cuisine with a not-so-hearty price tag. From spinach lasagna to chicken Parmesan, this cucina crafts it all, including the to-die-for secret recipe tomato-basil marinara, which is also available for purchase in jars to take home. Complement the homemade eggplant Parmesan, delicately breaded and smothered in Italian cheeses, with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, and you might swear you're in the heart of the Italian countryside. For the ultimate mini-vacation, end your meal with the tiramisu - the velvety dessert is served parfait-style, combining espresso-soaked ladyfingers with rich dollops of mascarpone cheese and whipped cream.

Keep In Mind:
Rating everything 5 stars or all 1 stars is typically not very useful to others as makes you look a bit biased.

Remember, you can still visit a not so perfect place (ie, a dive joint) and still give it 5 overall stars.
