Incredible food, but please train the staff!
I live in the neighborhood and have been to Touch twice. The restaurant, especially the back room, looks great. I cannot say enough good things about the freshness and creativity of the food by Chef Jeff. Appetizers through dessert, it was of the highest quality. He was very personable and concerned about what we thought. In a place where the majority of people seemed to be there for the bar, it seemed sad that more weren't eating dinner.
How I wish I could say the same of the service! We were there two nights in a row -- the first night the server was slow and completely uninformed (fortunately Chef Jeff stepped in). The waiter knew nothing about the wine or the menu and had to make numerous trips to the kitchen to ask questions. Unfortunately there was nothing printed to help us out, so we had to rely on him for all information. In the lovely, cozy, library-like back room, the loud music from the bar was blasting into a speaker right above our heads. My friend and I were there to dine and talk, but it was very difficult over the music. Of course we asked (nicely) if the sound could be turned down back there, but we were refused.
The second night didn't go any better -- our service was horrible from beginning to end. From the hostile "host" smoking outside the door who didn't want to seat us in back despite our reservations and plenty of open, unreserved tables, to a truly clueless waitress who needed to be reminded repeatedly for every single thing (a glass for beer, silverware, the drink we ordered, the check, and on and on), we were made to feel like we weren't wanted. Our party was made up of people who eat out often and are friendly, patient and complimentary. We spent a lot. We don't want to find things to complain about, we just want to have a good meal and a good time. Neither night was the restaurant crowded, and despite many years waiting tables myself, I could not detect any reason for the long waits and general ineptitude. I just don't get it. Despite some of the best food I've had anywhere, I don't know if I'll ever go back to Touch. Please please get rid of the forbidding "Dark Lord" type at the door and train the wait staff! Bring the rest of this place up to the level of the food.

Excellent Food, But Service a Bit Inconsistant
The hostess lost our reservation for our party of six (they had the wrong night down and we requested the night big table in the back). But after a small wait, they were able to accomodate us. But the table was right by the kitchen door so that was a big negative to the dark comfy atmosphere as bright lights flashed each time the kitchen door was opened.
Since the restaurant was so busy (they were clearly slammed), it took for ever to get our food (including even our appetizers and salads).
We had to ask a few times where our food was and we kept getting the answer 'coming soon', so they knew it was taking a long time also. But the sent over some sorbets to keep us a little busy until the food came so that was a nice gesture.
After the food came out (about 50 minutes after we ordered), one of our parties steak came out ice cold. We had them reheat it and that took care of that problem.
The part I really didn't like was when we got the bill for the steaks, and my mouth hit the floor. It was $38! I was expecting the price to be in line with the rest of the menu, not double the price. I REALLY think your servers NEED to tell the prices of the specials to prevent this sort of SHOCK I got which made me feel very tricked.
But that said, the food was delicious (luckily I wasn't the guy who got the cold rib eye steak) .
To be fair, the manager knew we waited a long time and felt bad and offered a free round of drinks which was a very nice gesture and a sign of a good manager. But when I told the server I didn't drink and ask for a dessert instead, he resisted greatly over it (almost fighting with us as we assertive in our request since we felt we had gotten such horrible service that that was the least the could do to make things right). But the server said a dessert wasn't possible in place of a drink, so that upset our party greatly and one of the people asked to speak to the manager directly. After this request the manager actually brought out a round of drinks and desserts for everyone, along with $20 gift cards for everyone so they would come back after the lousy experience we had.
I live in the neighborhood come to the restaurant often and really like Touch's food, so I will be back for sure. But to be honest, I probably will only go back on a non-friday/Sat night (when it is less busy and when it is easier to provide excellent service).
Of the six people in my party, I think two of people will probably never come back because they were so turned off. But I will be back, so don't worry.
If you go, you probably won't experience what we experienced. We saw lots of other tables coming and going and they seemed pleased. So I think our experience was just a fluke.
They do have very delicious food and their pizza's are really great also. So I do recommend you try the place (be sure to use a Restaurant.com gift certificate and you can get $25 for $10)
Also, I want to comment on the music by the DJ. Since we had so much time on our hands while waiting for the food, we got to listen to alot of the music from the DJ and we ALL LOVED IT.
Your DJ was very friendly when I went up and spoke with him after dinner. He even turn me on to a whole new genre of music (Space Pop).
So the whole night wasn't a horrible experience (for me). But definitely a bit of a roller coaster.

5 STAR EXPERIENCE!!!!!
We chose Touch for our early Valentine's Day celebration. We could not have asked for a better evening out. Although we made reservations for 7:30pm, we arrived at 7pm but surprisingly did not have to wait for a table. We were immediately greeted with a cheerful smile by our waitress Brigitt. As far as the service is concerned we did not want for anything. She didn't let an empty dish or glass sit on the table for more than a minute and responded to our every request with a big smile. We will definitely request her during our next visit. Because we made it in time for Happy Hour, we were able to enjoy a complimentary sushi selection and discounted drinks. The sushi was fresh and included basic crab, salmon, and vegetable rolls. We were already big fans at that point. While we were looking over the items, our waitress brought out tiny plates of a side dish the chefs were trying out for the menu. It was a combination of sautéed vegetables that was rich in flavor. The menu offers just the right amount of items which I feel allows the kitchen to make those items extraordinary. My boyfriend chose the Touch pizza priced at $12. It was a 12 inch, crisp work of pizza art. There were large chunks of fresh tomatoes and thin slices of coppa on top of a thick layer of mozzarella. It was wonderful. I ordered the brined pounded pork chop and butternut squash risotto priced at $16. The presentation was beautiful. The pork chop was 16 oz and ate like a steak. It had been brushed with a sweet yet not overpowering glaze. The creamy risotto complimented the chop perfectly. We were too stuffed for dessert. We enjoyed another generously poured drink while we surveyed the art. There is a large selection of eclectic art for sale on the walls which I imagine provides an ever-changing design in the dining room. The crowd was mostly the young professional type. The room was moderately lit with candlelight and flowers at each table. The music was enjoyable and just loud enough so that the only conversation we could hear was our own. It made for an intimate evening. Touch definitely gained two loyal patrons. This is certainly one you don't want to miss!

Unique Experience
This is a great eclectic place with a truly unique experience - you need to go and take in all the atmosphere. The food is great, huge beer selections, excellent martinis and very unexpected high quality for the inexpensive price range of the food. Similar fare would cost way more at other places.
The best part about it all was that after we were done eating, we were able to hang out and go dancing downstairs!!
We have become regulars.
