Fantastic!
We've dined here many times and have yet to have a bad experience. Try the lobster nachos - divine. For an inside view, sit at the kitchen counter & watch as they prepare each meal. The Palmer salad has a light but tasty basil vinegrette with dried tomatoes that is always chilled and outstanding. My husband and I enjoy the seared tuna and the filet. I say you get what you pay for - and the food at JPs is well worth the money.

Beautiful Atmosphere/Food doesnt match
We were impressed with the atmosphere and service. But the food was not hot and the Filet mignon was not tasty. ( done MR) It took a good while to recieve our main course. A bread with a dipping sauce would have been nice or a choice.I think lunch would have been a better choice. I will give it another shot.

TURNED OFF
Decided to head out to Concord to try this restaurant. The decor is nice and nice spacing for the tables. Ordered shrimp cocktail (bout $10) and tuna (bout $14) for appetizers. Were they good? Yes. Were they worth the money? No. We've had similar appetizers at other fine dining estab's that were much better for the price. Entrees chicken ($21) and the filet ($29). Again, nothing that really wowed us. We were expecting much more out of the food and we didn't get knocked out of our seats by it. Goes to show when you dress up the interior and place a cloth napkin on the table you don't always get matching food. BTW, the service was good from the waitress, no complaints there. OK,OK so maybe not our cup of tea, possibly just an off night for the cooks. Here is the kicker though that put a damper on the whole experience. This may not annoy all, but in checking out the back small outside patio we notice a cook finishing up a cigarette (outside the patio), smashing it into the ground, then comes back in directly to the kitchen (no bathroom stop). We're not smokers and just got the visual of a cook handling food with cigarette smelling, tainted hands. What experience category is this rated for...cleaniness? Was it the worst experience, no, but bottom line would we go again....No.

Suppose to be great!!
Not a fan of this resturant. The food was OK, not nearly what I thought it would be average at best. I don't know maybe I went on a bad day, but good chefs do not have bad days. The server was slow, the prices were average. All the hype,I just do not see it. The atmosphere was nice.I wont be going back or referring to this resturant.I was expecting better!!!

Save some $ and go to Waffle House!
The wine list was less than spectacular. The restaurant's lighting is so dark that you can barely see the food, which is what I think they are striving for. The oysters were tiny and the steak was tough. The waitstaff is not very catering and does nothing to enhance the dining experience. Save some cash and go to the Waffle House across the street.

Fantastic all the way around
John Palmer's is a gem. The menu is innovative, creative and priced well. Everything is made in house including the bread and compound butter. The staff is attentive and friendly. The dining room is beautiful along with all of the elements, glassware, silverware, booths, etc. I travel a lot throughout the week. John DeJoy and his staff goes that extra mile for their guest. Not many restaurants with their caliber of style can make you feel so at welcomed. For some added excitement, sit at the kitchen bar and see the talented staff at work. That's my favorite spot. Also, take advantage of the special Monday Bottle Wine Special, most wines are available at retail while dining. Hats off to you John and to your staff.

Trendt but overpriced
Went to the restaurant with some friends yesterday. The food was good, but the prices were pretty silly in my opinion. Apparently the Quail Hollow crowd likes the restaurant, but I'm happier with places like Grovewood Tavern and Bistro 185 where the food is as good but the prices are about 30% less. The bruschetta trio - 3 pieces of bread for $7.95 - was soggy. You need to add a "Value" category to your ratings system.

Working my way through the menu!
I love dining at this restaurant. I have known the owner for a number of years and he consistently puts out outstanding food! The restaurant and bar are a reflection of his good taste and clientele base. I started with the seared duck breast with brie and a cherry/maple glaze - so outstanding I had it as my appetizer on several occasions. Most of the appetizers are around the $12 price range and well worth it. The next appetizer I tried was the ceviche. John makes his with smoked fish; an interesting twist to the original version...outstanding! I have tried each and every one of the appetizer selections and at least four of the main entrees. I thoroughly enjoy his restaurant, staff and many of his loyal patrons. It is not only a great place to dine, but a great place to meet new friends. This is a reflection of his welcoming staff, great food, and loyal patrons. I look forward to the Australian wine tasting this week! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone...but then again...maybe I should just keep this great place to myself...wouldn't want it to get so popular that I couldn't get in!

Should be "Bar Old Maid"!
This restaurant has put a lot of effort into its menu and consistently serves great food...BUT...the woman who works the bar is a miserable, cranky person who should just stay at home if she feels so badly...horrible attitude, poor service and in general just doesn't give a darn. The restaurant should put a little more effort into putting someone behind the bar area with a good attitude and helpful demeaner. She makes you feel like she's doing you a favor giving you a drink! The rest of the staff are great!

Great Restaurant/Terrible Bar
The food at this restaurant is overall very good, but can be inconsistent at times. The service at the bar, however, is always bad...the barmaid is usually daydreaming, out of site and definitely not on the money! Stick to the dinning room for good service. We have based this review on seven visits; three eating at the bar.
