My First Experience with Hibachi Ever!!
I am from PA..Came out to Ohio to visit Family on 8/22/09 and my cuz had an existing surprise..I am going to take to the Greatest Hibachi Ever. The food was out of this world, the pricing was quit reasonable for how much u received. The Chef was very entertaining..The service we received was great as well..The restaurant was very clean and beautiful..There was something in the atmosphere.. I felt very relaxed yet fancy even the kids had a blast!!And enjoyed the food and that is saying something by it self..Kids are picky!!Thanks Shinto's for the Greatest Hibachi Experience!!!

In Response to Dave from Medina
As someone who has actually been to Shinto to eat on more than one occasion, and who knows the layout of the tables, I'd like to respond to the comment left by Dave from Medina on February 27, 2009.
Shinto typically seats 8 people at each table. In a pinch, they are able to add up to two more chairs, allowing parties of 10 to dine together. To add one more chair plus a high-chair ON TOP of the already maxed-out table would not only be over-crowded, it could potentially violate some safety codes that the restaurant is not in control of. Please also take in to consideration that the chef at your station is responsible for cooking for all guests seated in front of him AT THE SAME TIME. Even if the additional guests don't put too much stress on the chef, they still only have the same size grill to work with.
I'm sorry you were disappointed, Dave, but I would venture to guess that it was out of their hands. Perhaps splitting in to two groups wouldn't have been such a bad thing afterall. As the stations are set up, you could still have been very close to one another.
As for my personal experiences at Shinto, I think this place is the whole package. I've never had a bad experience there. The service and food have always been divine. I understand the rating system here and that they caution you against giving all 5 stars, or risk appearing biased, but I can't in good conscience give them anything below a 5 on any point! The food is the best hibachi and sushi I've ever had. Their service has always been very helpful. The atmosphere is so unique. And they are nothing if not pristine. They have some great drinks at the bar, too.
To be quite frank, my fiance and I have enjoyed ourselves so much every time we've been there, that we've been in contact with their event coordinator recently and are currently planning to hold our wedding reception at Shinto. We couldn't be more thrilled with such an opportunity to treat our guests to such wonderful hospitality, and if we would invite to buy dinner for all of our loved ones there, you can be sure I would recommend them to anyone!

Best Sushi in NE Ohio!!!
I work for the North Olmsted Auto Collection and we always order our Sushi platters from Shinto. Many of us came from different parts of the country and all of us agree that Shinto's is the best Sushi we've had anywhere. The service is excellent and the staff are always courteous.

Clueless inflexible staff
Had a reservation for 10 people on a slow night. 11 people and a baby showed up. We were told that we would have to be split up at 2 seperate Hibachi tables. The 20 something decision maker was unwilling to add another chair to accommodate us. We then made a phone call to TOMO Hibachi grill 5 minutes down the road. They accommodated us, we had a great meal and they were happy to accept our $378 in business. Clueless manager and dim witted greeters, good luck Shinto!

Shint-NO
I live in the Naperville area and have been very excited for the opening of Shinto, the Japanese Steak House. They have been open for a month or so, and had their grand opening last weekend (February 7th, 2009) and we were so excited to be going for Valentine’s Day.
When we pulled up, the place was packed, which is typical for Valentine’s Day. We walked in for our 7:30pm reservation and were told it would be a wait, again, typical for a Saturday night and Valentine’s Day. As we were walking up we were discussing our reservation that we had for the hibachi area, I said as long as we are not in the super bright dining area I am fine. Well, the hibachi area is the super bright area, with too many people crammed in, and not interesting as far as the decorations went. We changed our reservation for the sushi area, which was dimly lit and very tasteful – this was our biggest mistake. The bar area is beautiful, and is most of the restaurant. The music was typical club music, which was fine when we were in the bar, but at dinner, I found myself distracted.
We were seated, and were promptly told that we are not able to get anything off of the hibachi menu at the sushi area. Since I do not eat sushi I was disappointed. They did have many cooked appetizers, and we ordered the Shinto Platter which sounded great with many tastings of their cooked appetizers. My significant other ordered some sushi, and we ordered some fried rice. Once I was near finishing the glass of wine we had ordered at the bar and brought with us to the table I began looking for the waiter. He was moving fast back and forth, and did not glance over at us at all. At one point, after my wine was gone for quite some time, I shouted out as he ran by, and he still ignored me. Finally, he came by and we grabbed his attention, and I ordered a glass of wine along with asking for a new glass of water, since my glass was seriously cracked and we were waiting for it to bust open at any moment. Literally 45 minutes went by, and still no wine. Yes, the waiter was walking by, and with many other drinks, but no wine. He then comes over with our fried rice, and I ask him about the glass of wine, and he says, ooh yes, your wine. We place another order for the same glass of wine for my significant other, figuring that he will be done with his by the time the waiter comes by. He comes over within a minute with my one glass of wine, which I am sure was sitting at the bar waiting for me all the while. The sushi we had ordered around 8pm (which was a few pieces of one type of sushi) had come, and it was 9:30pm. I had no idea that it takes an hour and a half to make sushi? Still no second glass of wine. We reminded him, and he acted like he remembered that we had asked for it. About 15 minutes later, he is coming towards us with what appears to be our food. I am so hungry at this point and it is about 9:45pm. He sets it down and says, Sushi Platter. I am so upset, I correct him and let him know that this is not ours. We had written out “S-H-I-N-T-O P-L-A-T-T-E-R” on the sushi order form. He asked if I would just eat this instead, and I let him know that I do not eat shushi. He said that it would be a while if we needed to replace our order, and as I was telling him to go to the kitchen and tell them to make our order NOW, my significant other just told him that we need to leave. Our waiter went to get the manager and returned about 10 minutes later, with no manager and said that we did not have to pay for any of the food – I was confused, because all I had was some rice and a glass of wine, and I have been here for 2+ hours. I told him that we are leaving in 60 seconds if the manager does not come, and guess what… no manager. We got up and walked out. A young man let us know that we don’t have to pay for anything, and as I walked through the crowd waiting to be seated, I just shook my head at them and stormed out.
I will never go back to Shinto and discourage anyone from going. The service was so ridiculously poor, and they made no effort to make it up to us. I highly recommend going to KIKU, which is located at 2764 Aurora Ave, Naperville, IL, www.mykiku.com.

Managment Needs to Step Up
Every time I've been to Shinto for Hibachi, the servers do a wonderful job of getting multiple courses out quickly and with friendly attitudes. Unfortunately a while ago my sister in law and I tried to go on a Tuesday for half off sushi and were treated horribly. We arrived right at the beginning of a private party, and were shuffled around like cattle until we were finally told to leave. I even called earlier in the day to try and make a reservation for sushi, and they said one would not be necessary. I can understand that they may have private parties, but the way we were treated once inside was unacceptable. We had one hostess telling us to wait, one telling us to go, and we ended up waiting for over 45 minutes until a sushi chef yelled at us and we were told to leave. The manager should have explained the situation, and we would have gladly left without the chips on our shoulders. I haven't been back since...

UNFORTUNATE CIRCUMSTANCE
I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO EATING AT SHINTO ON MOTHER'S DAY, THIS WAS ALSO MY DAUGHTER'S GRADUATION. UNFORTUNATELY GRADUATION RAN OVER AN HOUR AND WE COULD NOT BE ACCOMPANIED. KELLY , THE ASST. MANAGER AT SHINTOS GAVE US FREE COCKTAILS AND MADE A RESERVATION FOR US DOWN THE STREET AT TRIAS AND WE WERE SEATED IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED NICER AND I WILL GO BACK ASAP!

Great sushi in Strongsville
Excellent sushi - firm and exceedingly fresh (more so than a certain trendy downtown establishment). Pricing for the sushi is generally reasonable - cheap for the basics, more pricey for more elaborate. The hibachi is mediocre in terms of quality and more pricey. The host/hostesses are teens who do not have their act together and are a constant source of irritation. The servers are better: friendly and only mildly inattentive. THe manager is great - making the rounds and often providing a free round of drinks to make up for the spotty service.

Trendy Atmosphere, Decent Sushi
The decor when walking into Shinto can be defined as "Modern Asian". Accents of glass, wood, and shiny stainless steel hibachi tables dominate the initial view. A small sushi dining area is located off to the side, and the sushi bar is standard for those who have seen the likes of one before. Service is always friendly, even though sometimes not immediately attentive.
My wife and I prefer sushi to hibachi, so we have only done the hibachi there once. We mainly order a bunch of sushi rolls, about 5 or 6 rolls between the two of us, and miso soup. Pricing is average for sushi - along the lines of most other places we've been to, but the place down the street is slightly cheaper. This is not to say that cheaper is better, though - Shinto definitely beats the place down the street for sushi hands-down. The miso soup leaves a little to be desired, however, as the seaweed is a little mushy and the tofu pieces are rather small. The sushi itself is good, but depending on the roll that is ordered there can sometimes be too much sauce, green onion, or some other flavor that overpowers the rolls. I guess what I am trying to say is that some of the rolls are just a bit off in the flavor balance category. Texture of the rolls, another important category for sushi, is always good. The fish is firm and the rolls are usually rolled just tight enough.
There are better sushi places than Shinto as far as the sushi itself is concerned, but there are none better within a 10 mile radius. The atmosphere makes Shinto a good "Date Restaurant".

Spiders and Scorpions and Caterpillars, Oh My!
This is some of the best, if not *the* best sushi I've had in the area. The spider roll, scorpion roll and caterpillar rolls are all highly recommended. The presentation is just gorgeous. Plus, they have Chimay Belgian ale, which I've just discovered goes very well with sushi. The room itself is very nice, intimate yet expansive.

Amazing!
Wow, I loved this place. Food, awesome! The atmosphere and decor was really great. Helpful friendly attentive waiters. We had hibachi and the chef was great. The food, taste and quality, spectacular, and the chef was entertaining, and very good at what he does. Everything, from drinks and appetizers, to the main course, and soup and salad, to the delicious dessert!
Highly recomend. A+ for sure!
