The Name Game

Agostino's is no longer agostino's. It is now Primo Piatto which we were told means "first plate" as in appetizer. The place looked pretty much like Agostino's looked, although the waitress told us it had been painted. We were there on Thursday, July 16th. Figured we'd give a new owner(?) or just a name change (?) a chance. First and last chance for this one. Food was OK. But, talk about expensive. I though we had gone to Little Italy for dinner. Actually, Little Italy is most likely less expensive. We order mussels for an appetizer. There were then, 2 orders of spaghetti with meat sauce, some special bucatini (sorry about the spelling) with a special sauce and a huge meatball and an order of chicken parm on a bed of zitti with marinara. Like I said, all was good. But, with the above and 2 iced teas as beverages, the bill and tip came to over $100 for 4 people. Oops, sorry, 2 of us order salads, too. There was nothing special about these meals, certainly not $100 worth of food and service. As with the other reviewer, I too hope the wait staff are looking for new employement. This place will not survive in that neighborhood at those prices. Staff were very nice. But, seemed a little over burdened with chores in addition to waiting on customers. Also, there were only 3 tables occupied when we arrived at around 6:30 and we were the last to leave. No one walked in after we arrived. Also, we sat where we got a view of part of the kitchen. It appeared to be in need of some serious overhauling with lots of black stuff on the lower walls. Give me Corso's in North Olmsted.....there I get quality, consistency and value for my money.

Name change & management style soound a death knell.

Previous problems with coupons should have been a warning. This past weekend we (party of four) went to Agostino's for dinner. What a disappointment. First they asked if we had coupons which we did & they said that due to their name change they no longer honor coupons from the Hey Butler web site. We found that they had changed the name from Agostino's to Primo something. The new menu was printed on one sheet of cheap computer printer paper. With the exception of basket of bread & a dish of oil everything on the menu was seperate. Example: "you want a salad with your entry, it's $4 extra, side of pasta, extra charge. The waitress said that the pasta dishes came with steamed vegetables - we were not told what they were & it didn't really matter since we never got them. My sister ordered eggplant parmesan & that is what she got, 'three pieces of eggplant and nothing else. Our spaghetti diners also came with nothing else. I will add that the food was ok but the menu, the attitude of management & the 'quiet Italian restaurant' atmosphere has gone down the drain. We will not go back. Note, the waitress was attentive & very friendly & to some extent apologetic. I hope she is looking for a new job as this place will no doubt close fairly soon. Too bad since it used to be a nice place with good food, entertainment and a pleasant atmosphere.

DOUBLE MORTIFYING

Same experience as Dining Deal and Mortifying! Only I thought I would just get one to go dinner last night. Ordered, went to pick it up with one of my re-issued $10 certificates and was told it wasn't good for takeout! Nowhere on the certificate does it state that, which I pointed out. Mind you, this is their own certificate they gave me to use in exchange for the Dining Deal one. They are soooo rude and wrong in this. I will never go there again and will tell everyone, even if they don't ask, to never go to Agostino's. There's never anyone in the restaurant anyways - you would think they want the business!!!! I am also calling the Better Business Bureau and filing a complaint. They are a bad neighbor in Brooklyn and bordering Cleveland. Anyone want to buy 5 $10 certificates for $25?

Mortifying

I took one of my WTAM $25 gift certificates to Agostino’s this past Friday (April 24th). As she was seating us, the waitress asked if we had any gift certificates and wanted to see it when I said yes. When she saw it was one of the WTAM certificates, she stated that the restaurant was under new management and was not accepting the WTAM certificates but would gladly exchange them for three $10 promo gift certificates – which she did. I have to admit that I was pleasantly pleased that we’d be getting more for our money. These promo certificates state that they are only “valid one certificate per party per visit.” Being a little unsure about what this meant, I asked the waitress if we could use 2 certificates of we had separate checks. She said “yes.” Before I continue, I want to mention that the waitress was extremely friendly and very professional throughout. This following complaint should, by no means, be attributed to her. We ordered our meal and proceeded to have a fairly pleasant experience. When we could eat no more, we were given carry-out boxes. We each settled our bills, finished our beverages, and were getting ready to leave when a woman claiming to be the manager came raging out of the back, screeching that we “couldn’t do this.” She stated we couldn’t use 2 certificates for one table. When I tried to explain to her that we were only doing what we were told we could, she won’t listen and continued screeching. The waitress even tried to explain to her that we were told we could use 2 certificates. She then proceeded to totally mess up everything by charging us a second time. Even with the waitress right there, she didn’t understand that we had already paid. In front of everyone in the restaurant, I felt like she was accusing us of trying to leave without paying. My 87-year old mother was so mortified she simply paid the additional $10 simply to shut her up!!! I'm filing a complaint with the Cleveland Better Business Bureau

Dining Deal gift cards switched after purchase

When I ordered my Agostino's gift certificates a few weeks ago, I received my gift certificates as single $50 gift certificates for the purchase price of $25. When I visited the restaurant, they gave me 5 separate certificates for $10 each, only one certificate per visit. This defeats the purpose of my intended use. I have no intention of visiting the restaurant FIVE times to get the value of the certificate. Additionally, I had purchased an additional certificate for a Christmas gift for a family that cannot afford a restaurant meal-this purpose will definitely be negated. The Manager at Agostino's gave no consideration to these concerns and stated that they were under new management and that Dining Deals was in error for issuing the gift certificates in this manner, despite the fact that they are still issuing gift certicates online. And even after we decided to stay to try & get our monies worth, the food was lousy-not what we remembered from dining there for over 23 years!

The Most Dissapointing Dining Experience Ever!!!

Mother's Day brunch, apparently w/ previous owners, used to be very nice. Took my mom her, expecting great food, a relaxing atmosphere and the great service we'd had before. Brunch was from 12:00-3:00, had a 12:00 reservation. Arrived at 11:45, waited in the cold-along with about 15 others, while the valet parked the car and kept calling asking the staff to open the doors for all of us. When they finally opened the door the staff was unprepared, they were scrambling to get the tasteless & cold food out. We were seated in the bar section with Spongebob squarepants on the t.v. The desserts were on a table melting. The staff seemed to care less that we weren't having a pleasant experience. At one point a female (appeared to be the owner) barked at the tables of guests asking if any of us owned the car parked in back-that must've been blocking a delivery entrance. When I asked, for the third time, to either move our seats or turn off the t.v., a staff member turned off the t.v. and said "It's off now, you're fine!!!"

Absolutely the Worst! Never Again

Easter was a disaster. Hardly any food left for our party. Plenty of grapes and cheese. Choice of Chicken, meatballs, roast beef, sausage, hardly warm salmon, flat pasta and vegetables. Desert was almost gone and fruit was gone. Extremely loud band (not expected and distractive) Charged $25/adult plus 20% gratuity without permission. Waitress only brought sodas/water. Had to chase down anyone for bill. Two 5 year old children charged $12.50ea plus 20% also!!! Family has been there before... Never again. Will contact owner for possible refund.

Agostino's A great place to eat!

Agostino's restaurant owned by Nancy Bolzan Gentile is a fabulous place to eat. If you want old fashioned Italian authentic food this is the place to eat. This isnt no Olive Garden, Pizza Hut or national chain of Italian/American foods. This place has great authentic Italian foods prepared fresh daily to your delight. The food is absolutely fantastic and your dining experience is second to none.

Outstanding!!!

This is the first time I have ever posted my comments for a restaurant, but the food and experience was so wonderful that I had to... My family was treated like royalty and the calamari and stuffed scampi prepared by Joe Sabo who took the time to speak with really topped off the evening... And if it could not get any better, the home made tirmisu made me make a reservation for the following week. Well done... My thanks to owner Nancy who made our recent visit a memorable one...

Keep In Mind:
Rating everything 5 stars or all 1 stars is typically not very useful to others as makes you look a bit biased.

Remember, you can still visit a not so perfect place (ie, a dive joint) and still give it 5 overall stars.
