I really wanted to like this restaurant. I drive past it all the time. It has great curb appeal. My husband and I decided to get take out to try it out.
We had stuffed banana peppers. They were really bland and the serving was small. We also ordered three or four more things, they were so unexciting, I can't even remember what they were. I know we ordered a chicken dish and a dish with seafood but I can't remember what they were supposed to be. Both my husband and I were terribly disappointed with all the dishes. They were all really bland.
Like so many mediocre ethnic restaurants, apparently the kitchen staff here believes that just providing ethnic food names is enough. The food tasted institutional. Break out some nice, fresh herbs. Be bold.
People who grew up with good Italian home cooking will probably not enjoy this restaurant. However, to be fair, people who are used to spaghetti sauce from a jar may not notice the lack of authenticity.

Just not today, Dont get me wrong , I love the tiny establishment, its such a throw back to the 40s/ 50s , 60s. I grew up in an Italian neighborhood and this place would fit in to a tee. My first visit, I always order my standard, spagetti and meatballs, why you ask, well if I dont like the sause (gravy) and if the meatballs are not as good as mine, well then why would I eat anything else. Not impressed. Okay I gave them another chance , I went back and ordered salads and pizza , figure they got to get pizza right. I so adore this little place and its close to my house, but alas, the crust was made out of dinner roll dough. Im hoping that someday this place will be a knockout in Italian cooking.

My wife and I drove past here a about a year ago and she remarked how cute it was. I took her there last night for our anniversary and we were VERY pleased!
Family run and the shows in how they do business. Food was perfect, atmosphere was very cozy. We look forward going there again very soon.

One of the things my wife and I remember about our honeymoon in Rome was the small, family restaurants we ate dinner.
Bovalino's is like that experience. The pasta is great, the sauces are good, the veal is sublime and don't get me started on the house dressing. Be prepared to wait — and you will wait outside because the restaurant is not large enough for a waiting room. When I discovered this restaurant, I was driving by, in March, and it was about 40 outside, and there were four couples waiting outside to eat. In the summer, it isn't as bad since there is a patio that opens.
An experience not to be missed.
