this is not your mama's italian kitchen!
We had a very disappointing experience september 19th. We made reservations for a birthday dinner and received poor service and food. Even the wine had to be sent back. We were seated in the "overflow" area which had absolutely zero atmosphere, instead of the main dining room. The bright lights from the hallway ( a closed business corridor)were annoying. Some curtains over these glass doors could have easily made this more romantic. No candles or flowers on the table. We did not get bread or water until halfway through our appetizers. Menus were slapped down without the waiter asking if we'd like a drink or appetizer. We had to ask for a wine list, it wasn't even brought with our menus. We ordered wine and when it came it was flat and lifeless ( an italian sangiovese) We sent it back and did receive a new bottle which was much improved.I was told that we didn't wait long enough for the wine to "open up". We would have waited all night...the bottle was stored improperly and must have gotten too warm. The host said he thought it was fine- he drinks about anything and he's not that "picky". Of course he isn't-he didn't pay $35 for a bottle of crap.We have traveled extensively and most recently (August) throughout Italy. We KNOW our wines! Our meals were very tasteless. My veal marsala was paper thin and tasted like flour and paper towels. The sauce was totally tasteless as well. My husbands eggplant ravioli sauce was bland as well. I'm glad we did not order the $35 ahi tuna. I would have really been upset if it was as poorly seasoned as the rest of our meal. We did not order dessert or coffee. We spent $80 on an escargot appetizer, wine and two meals. We felt ripped off enough so we stopped there. Our waiter was not very friendly and he appeared to have half the dining room to wait on. How can he offer service to that many people at once? By the way- the menu on their website was not the menu we saw at the restaurant. Apparently they have not updated it recently and they are not offering the type of dining that their website advertises as "fine dining". We drove all the way from Akron for this lackluster meal. I've had much better meals at Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill...and we are not normally chain food restaurant diners.I guess we have to drive to Cleveland or downtown Akron to get a true Italian meal. Or else back to Italy!
