Best Eats in Mentor
I've been going to Sumo Boy since it opened. At this point, I've got the menu memorized. It's as good today as it has always been, better if you count the new specials that seem to crop up on the chalkboard every time I visit. The sushi is amazing for the restaurant and the price range. You simply can't get better sushi in the area; I know, I've tried. The only other two closest sushi places; Hibachi and Otani's in Mayfield have gone the Benihana's route and concentrated on generic hibachi stir-fry leaving the quality and freshness of their sushi behind. Sumo Boy on the other hand is always fresh. The sushi is well packed; the portions large and the presentation, while not up to the standards of some place like the Shibuya at Las Vegas's MGM grand, is certainly above average. Their house rolls are wonderfully creative too. Try their Thunder roll, B-52, or the Baby Gecko special. They're worth every penny. While Sumo boy has always suffered from small lunch crowds, their dinner and especially their weekend nights are packed solid. In my opinion, by far the best eats in Mentor. Sumo Boy deserves every praise for retaining their level of excellence all these years.

Me Love it Long Time
The author of "Sumo Boy needs to go home!" has no idea what he is talking about.
1. For the price, Sumo Boy ranks up at the top of the list with Pacific East for value (taste/quality versus price) of sushi places in and around Cleveland.
2. The owner is as sweet as Japanese Apple Pie (an excellent dessert roll if you can fit it in). I'm an RN as is my sister. We've been there numerous times. Nothing we've ever seen has ever led us to think she has any mental disease whatsoever. A tiny bit forgetful on the refills of beverages, but not ill. She could have been in the weeds one day, unable to kiss his rear, who knows? Maybe "Anonymous" never worked in a restaurant.
3. We ordered 3 lunch specials last time we were there. Got 9 rolls, soup, 1 regular and 1 avocado salad, edamame, a seaweed salad, and two soft drinks all for $57 including a generous tip. We intentionally over ordered so we'd have lunch for work and essentially got four gut-packing meals out of it all.
4. I asked about the salad dressing. She said it was the same. It did seem different to me, but I actually liked it MUCH better this time. It was a little thinner, but not "watery" in the least. The salad was very cold, crisp, and delicious with no wilted or brown leaves to be seen. My real test? The tomato slice wasn't even a tiny bit mealy.
5. Yes, there were less people, but how is that a bad thing? The only reason I ever want a business to be busy is so it will stick around because I like it (which, incidentally is exactly what I wished for this place when it first opened). Aside from that, if it could stay open and never have another person in there while I was in there I'd be thrilled. This past trip there were some really annoying children banging stuff and yelling. Not really the atmosphere I like to be in, ever, but I survive it to eat good food.
6. The sushi was as fresh and delicious as it has always been. The only issue I had with it was that she mistakenly brought me something other than the Mexican roll I ordered. What I got instead was tasty, and I'm not a complainer, so I let it ride.
7. The bathrooms could use some love, there's no denying that. The food preparation area though (the part that everyone cares the most about) is very clean.
8. It is absolutely worth every penny, but don't take my word. You have two polar opposite opinions here, so research yourself. Go there and order one roll for $4-5 (or the lunch special, 3/$9.75 and split). If it's bad you lost the price of a McDonald's sandwich. However, if it's as amazing as I say, you can order more on the spot to finish your meal AND you've found an excellent new restaurant!

I rike it a-rot!
I have been going to Sumo Boy for four years. It's had a few ups and downs. I loved the other sushi chef but this new one has grown on me. I still eat there or get carry out about 3-4 times a month. I think it's the best pace around here. I give it 2 thumbs up...

Sumo Boy is a great place to have small get togethers
I have recently went to Sumo boy, and i thought that it was very fancy and romantic. I am definately going to eat there next time im in Mentor. The pricing was not too expensive, what i ordered was definately worth it. i got a great quantity of sushi. The decorations were very calming to oneself. There are dividers between the tables so that one has plenty of privacy while enjoying a delicious meal.

Sumo Boy needs to go home!
Since it opened four years ago, this restaurant has been in decline. Others must feel the same way...the last time we were there, we were the only table for lunch! This place used to be crowded...not anymore! The portions are shrinking, the quality has gone down, prices keep rising, and the service is horrible! The owner/manager (not sure which she is. she's the long-haired korean lady) can be very rude and unfriendly. It's almost as if she's bipolar...overly sweet one day, cold as ice the next. We used to go there all the time for the lunch special, but the last few time have been horrible. The salad dressing has been watery and runny. The salad itself appeared old, wilted and some pieces were brown. The sushi isn't always fresh. Sometimes it smells fishy. And the rolls have gotten really small. We also always order edamame before our sushi, and that too is shrinking in portion size. This place used to be a great place for lunch, but it's not worth it anymore. I wouldn't go there if I were you!
