Miserable

Service was terrible. Menus were thrown on our table without any verbal acknowledgment from the server. Three employees (2 managers and a server) stood around and did nothing the entire time we were there. The place was pretty crowded; nonetheless, at one point a manager and an employee sat down in the bar area and had dinner. By the looks of these reviews, maybe they should have considered better serving their clientele! I never witnessed that in a restaurant with as many people waiting for their food. At least one cook returned to the kitchen after smoking outside. He went right back to work without washing his hands! Never going back.

Horrible every time

My last visit was in March, 2011. I've gone three times (only the first time by choice) and I so very much want to like it because it's a great location and cool atmosphere...but it's AWFUL. I mean, awful Mexican even by midwest standards. I don't know how everything can be so flavorless and heavy! The Zócalo Street Corn was half a cob with cheese on top. Flavorless. The Carne Guisada was bland and greasy. Just BAD. Nice people, cool environs...BAD food consistently.

Good, bad and Ugly

My buddy and I stopped in after Sunday's Browns game. We were looking forward to some good Mexican food and we got some good, some bad and some ugly: Fajitas average but really good tortillas. Very goof calamari but hardly any sauce. Beans under done. Rice over done. Very nice chilli relleno. What the heck was up with the enchilada? Stringy stewed beef on corn mush wrapped in corn husk? Barely edible and in no way an enchilada.

Tasteless Mexican Cuisine

Cannot beleive food can be this bland and tasteless and be called Mexican. The calamari appetizer was good if you used the accompanying sauce, otherwise the calamari alone was poorly seasoned. The salsa and chips were bland, bland, bland;the chips were greasy, cold and bland (who uses fried flour tortillas as chips)? The carnitas were dry and stringy. Had the burrito, enchilada, tamale combo. All were bland the meat was overcooked and dry. The fish tacos were overcooked and dry. The dessert was amazing;mexican flourless cake w Patron ice cream-had ordered the banana desert but they were out of the sauce so we received a side of banana with the sundae which was very good. Would recommend the calamari appetizer but as I went to the restroom I say two staff eating out of a calamari appetizer while the waitress stood talking to them, then I watched as she took the glass to her unsuspecting table-I so wanted to tell the customers what I had witnessed-how gross.I will never go back, The restrooms were dirty-Yuck!

fantastic, love love love it!

I was very surprised at all the negative reviews. I make it a point to stop at Zocalos whenever I come to Cleveland. Love the homemade guacamole, love the sopes and the goat cheese/black bean quesidillas are amazing. Drinks are pretty great too! The wait staff are super friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere is funky and cool. I was recently in Cleveland for a day and a half and I ate there twice!

Lebron James eats here

Looking for a great mexican experience Dont Go here!!! the cab driver suggested this place saying "Lebron James is always there" the rice was dry and the dinner I had seemed old, how can you mess up rice and beans? The beef was too salty and stringy. The high light of the evening was the Tequila!! Samples of 5 different ones made my night but I will never eat there again.

No No No

You really should go somewhere else. Just because it is on East Fourth does not mean it is good. We went on Tuesday during restaurant week and I really wish we had not. We ordered the street corn, expecting it to be different and delicious. It was a corn cob on a skewer with parmesan cheese, not exactly gormet. The "seafood" paella (they call it seafood because they threw in 5 shrimp) is a total let down. Way too salty. The black beans tasted like they were poured out of a can. I ordered the churros for desert. They were the packaged kind you can buy in the frozen aisle at Giant Eagle, just heated up. I even asked if they were made in house and the server could not tell me. For the same amount of money you can eat at Lolas. Don't waste money here, Momocho, El Rodeo, and Si Senor have much better food at a fraction of the cost.

We were greeted by very friendly workers. We chose to sit outside and watch people walking by as were eating. The chips were homemade and the best we have ever eaten. We ordered the nachos as an appetizer, they were very generous witht the shredded beef and cheese. Our dinners were served promptly, the food was hot and very tastey. Give this restaurant a try, we did and we were glad that we did not let the other reviews change our mind.

The worst ceviche I have ever had!

Me and my boyfriend agree that they had the worst ceviche ever. It had three pieces of shrip and served in a watery spaghetti sause-like paste. Their salsa is similar...However, the chips were good. I think that they were trying to be creative, but clearly bad. The beans were bland and cold and the shrimp for my entree was not fresh and they were over cooked. However, the margarittas are rather good and fairley priced. The $20 margaritta is HUGE. Atmosphere is cool, but I don't like the fact that you have to walk down the stairs to find the restroom. I usually have a nice time when I visit there, but the food is always disappointing:(

Yuck!

My husband and I stopped in for dinner before a game. The food is completely tasteless. I have never had to salt Mexican food before. The location may be good, but the food is awful. The bathrooms were a mess too. Don't bother!

Food Not Good

Wow.. I was so excited when I heard the great chef Sanchez was taking control of the menu. I had eaten here before he came and was disgusted. How disappointing even with Sanchez on board. I couldn't believe how incredibly average this place was. It was a slight improvement -- I found the food to have a better quality but still lacking so much. We should have a fantastic Mexican place in the downtown market -- but NO.. it's not happening!

oh no not again????

Did I really go again after I heard they got this new NY celebrity guru of mex cuisine? Did I really put myself through this again? How could I have gone again spent 1/3 more and get an even worse experience. I want to like this place. I live right down the street and still I could kick myself every time I go in there. At least I think that the next restaurant that goes in there has a good shot because it cannot get any worse and the landlords will rent it for a steal. anyone want to open a good place???????

Fine Tasting Tequila

They can certainly make a drink for me anytime. My wife, brother in law, and I stopped in to have a pre-dinner drink before heading across the street. The prices were fair for Top Shelf. Little did I know until the other night that not all Tequila is made to shoot, some is made to sip. I'd love to have dinner there sometime. There were a lot of people in the bar that came over after the Cavaliers playoff game, appears to be a good post-game hangout
