Terrific Atmosphere, Terrible Service
It is so sad that such a beautiful place has such awful food and service. We came in on a Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. Upon arriving we were impressed with the lovely outdoor area and the bar inside. Unfortunately that's where our good first impression ended. The hostess's seemed bored and uninterested in helping us. We got a booth at the bar and our server came to the table with barely a hello and looked as if he'd rather have a root canal than wait on us. He made little effort to sell us anything, and we continually had to ask for a clean glass, water refill, anything. We were drinking a lot of wine and he could've easily made more money by suggesting or showing some interest. He never bussed the table, never smiled, never offered refills or additional drinks, he really didn't seem to care one way or the other. As a group of fellow food service people we are pretty easy going, but this guy has no business being a server as he doesn't seem to understand the basic concept of "serving"! He forgot to give us one of our credit cards back. After we drove home to Lakewood we realized we didn't have it. We drove BACK to the wine bar and asked if they had it and they said no. The next morning I called to double check as by this point we realized the lack of concern and service and at that point they said Yes, they did have it. We had to drive back to get it (now for the 3rd time),there was no apology or concern. As for the food, it is almost as equally bad. An avocado & brie brushetta was a dry, bland, boring concoction. The calamari was on the rubbery side, the only thing saving it was a sweet chili sauce. The tuna won tons were unbalanced, with a giant fried won ton topped with a tiny slice of fish and the obligatory zig zag lines of some unmemorable sauce.
I will mention again how beautiful this place is and has so much potential. If you don't mind seriously mediocre food and poor service, it is a nice place to have a glass of wine, if they have it in stock and you can get someone to bring it to you!

Terrible Service
Let me preface this review by stating that the restaurant was HALF full on a Sunday afternoon. This should normally be a time where service is on point. We sat ourselves in the main dining room and waited 10 minutes for someone to come by with menus after we watched 3 different servers walk by us without noticing we were waiting. Immediately after recieving our menus, a different server came by to ask us if we would like some wine, this without giving us any time to review the wine list of food menu. This was our grave mistake, because when we explained that we were not ready to order, we didn't see anyone for the next 15 minutes. Yet ANOTHER server finally noticed and took our drink orders, and brought our wine. We were not asked if we were ready to order nor were we told where our server could be found. We were passed by one of the managers going in and out of the office 4 times, this lasted another 10-15 minutes. We watched as servers were hanging around the computers and the bartender had his back to us the entire time. By this time we were fed up and brought our menus to the bar and asked to cash out. The manager looked at us noticing that something was obviously wrong, but never asked. We will not be going there again. The only reason that we did in the first place is because Tartine is closed on Sunday. They have much better wine, food and definately better service.

Has great potential
One of the most beautiful patios anywhere provides the opportunity for an exceptional experience. Unfortunately, our server was extremely slow (15 minutes to approach our table and another 10 minutes to check on our food -she offered condiments as we were finishing our meals.)She was also extremely uninterested in increasing her sales ("Are you getting any dessert?")And, in this lovely wine bar, no wine list was ever offered. IMO, it should be brought to the table on first approach.
Our food was ok, but nothing was great. Grilled seasonal vegetables ($2) were 2 overcooked spears of asparagus with a slab of red onion. I know prices have gone up, but I expected a bit more than that. One omelet was overcooked, while another one was cooked perfectly. We suspected that there was a problem in the kitchen that day. The menu is small, but has something for every taste. We know this place can be fabulous -the owners need to provide training for the staff.
