sorry to say
My son and I had an early dinner there tonight. I had the chicken and 3 cheese potatoes. What cold food! The server took my plate away when I told her the potatoes weren't even warm, and oh great when she brought it back now my chicken is even colder. No excuse for cold food, unacceptable, just wrong! However, my son's meatloaf looked good and was delicious he said. His garlic potatoes were also barely warm.Again no excuse for cold food. It seems such a small thing to ask for when you just want a nice little dinner out. Oh and when we left, not even a thank you for coming or a goodbye. Sorry Lakewood!

Food so good, even your mother would approve!
Ok, ok, I didn't take my mom.... small problem, she's a bit dead. BUT, I did take my friends and one was vegetarian (the others were just hungry).
It all worked out! Turns out they have EXCELLENT veggie burgers that don't taste like rolled cardboard! Service was very nice....not overly in your face. Atmosphere was simple and a bit too quiet, rather that then overly decorated (may have been time of day). Waitress was polite, took care of business. When the check arrived it didn't cause stomach upset. In short.. it's a great place to eat.

I guess I'm the party pooper
I've been to 56 West twice now, and one experience was incredibly average, and the other was pretty poor.
The first time, we went for brunch and we both got quiches. They were cold, as in right out of the refrigerator like that's how they were supposed to be. Maybe that's the trendy way to serve quiches, I don't know. I thought it was okay, but my girlfriend really didn't like it. Would have been much better if they were hot.
Then we went there last night for an early dinner, around 5 pm. We walk in, and walk right past an employee wearing a "56 West" t-shirt standing outside talking to his friend. No problem. We go in and sit down. There's nobody in there. No customers, and no staff. We wait 5 minutes. The guy is still standing outside talking to his buddy. We wait a few more minutes, and another employee shows up for her shift, and that's how we finally get service. Talk about lame! Some of the staff obviously cares nothing for their job or their customers!
So we got some drinks and food. My lemonade was excellent, and I often don't like lemonade (if it's too sweet or acidic). Then I got this sandwich with Tuna - Wasabi and Asian slaw on it. It was $8.56. It was okay I guess, but there was maybe 1 ounce of tuna on there. I took off the top piece of bread and could ALMOST taste the tuna.
My girlfriend got a salad with chicken, carmelized pears, and goat cheese. She loved it - no complaints there.
I really wanted to like this place. I've heard good things, they have a nice beer list. But that's 2 strikes. I'm not sure if I'll give it another chance. 2 chances is usually all I give a place.
Oh, 1 more thing. It was hot as NUTS in there. So if you're looking for a nice air-conditioned place to cool off and relax, this ain't it.

it's SO good!!
I have eaten at 56 West 4-5 times in the last month - The food is fantastic! My new favorite restaurant! We've done fusion/trendy/
expensive and I'm over it! 56 West is the place to be!
Sunday brunch was our first experience. I had the eggs benedict with Salmon ($7) which came with a gorgeous piece of salmon over english muffin and eggs with a homemade sauce that was to die for! We went back for lunch and made our own hamburger: you choose the bun and the toppings or one of the awesome creations on the menu. The home made catsup was tangy, sweet, spicy deliciousness! My boyfriend had some sort of steak entree ($10) and loved every minute of it. I went back with my mom who was visiting from out of town. She ate a burger and I chose a beautiful salad with fresh mozzarella and tomato with Salmon - total bill $22. Can't beat it!
The atmosphere is casual and the wait staff is very attentive - we chatted up a storm and they were awesome checking in on us frequently enough, but not too much.

Yum-Yum
We frequent this cafe and love the burgers, ahi tuna, desserts, fries and everything we try. You will be surprised at the quality of the high food and the reasonable price. We highly recommend it! The service is great. The atmosphere is casual yet trendy. On a busy night they let you go in and grab a beer out of the fridge - it definitely has character. They provide salsa and chips while you wait on a nice leather sofa.

56 West Gets Hot!
I just happened upon this trendy new place in Lakewood called 56 West. The menu is full of fun titles for their food, which is all home-made improvements on familiar standards.
I had a "Hidden Desire" salad, a very fresh and light Asian style salad, which was superb. My favorite part of the meal though was the "Beautiful Sunrise," a cheeseburger topped with a fried egg and pancetta. Delicious!
The staff is incredibly friendly and eager to please. Great beer selection, reasonably priced menu, and the best part is they use fresh and local ingredients. I plan on becoming a regular!
