Mama Grossa

I must say this place really needs work! the pasta was bland and oily and the tiramisu was an awful mess of cream and tasted like the refrigerator. my husband had the gnocci and it was a doughy mess and a tiny portion for the price. We left hungry and ended up ordering a pizza. We will never return

Mama Ro-so dissapointed

Me and my girlfriend went to moma rosa last week . It wasnt busy but we waited by the door for awhile before someone came to greet us. The waiter seemed tired and possibly intoxicated ( his eyes redder than the sour wine) The food was completely flavorless and the portions are tiny. The menu lacks diversity and it really doesnt seem like the owners know what it takes to be a successful restaurant. I look forward to the next establishment that opens in the old spanish tavern. * On the up side.. Zekes tavern has cheap booze, you can drink and forget about how much you spent on 4 ounces of spaghetti.

I was surprised!

I have to say i was pleasantly surprised at how neat the place is. I was told that the spanish tavern was the original restaurant that the building had. I went to a rehearsal dinner there many years ago. The magic from the Tavern lives on with this restaurant. I had great service from every direction. It definately felt family orientied. As a looked around it seemed everyone was as happy as I was too! I ordered eggplant as recommended by our waiter and it was delicious. The Chicken Piccata was done perfectly. I dont know who makes the tiramasu but it was absolutley mouth watering. I was also pleased with my wine and will be ordering it from my local grocery store soon. Great Job MAMA.

Good food, service, small portions

The food was great and the service was excellent. Portions were small and not what you would have expected at an Italian Restaurant. Had the Tiramisu for dessert and ordered one to go. When we got home I opened the container and saw that the portion of Tiramisu was half the size of the serving we got in the restaurant, "don't understand that one". Hope they realize that the small portions will only hold up so long before word gets out. Over all the food was very good, but how expensive can it be to make pasta ? A class of wine was more like a shot of wine, the class was 1/4 full. Want to go back, but not leave hungry !!!

Delicious dining in Brecksville

Our first experience at Mama Rosa was very good. The wait staff was excellent, never waited for refills. The Spiedini appetizer was delicious, as was the white pizza. The tiramisu was definitely homemade and decadent. The owner even stopped by to see how we liked it and give us background on the restaurant. I will definitely be back soon!

Not Worth It!!

My husband and I went there last night, 1/9/10 for dinner. Everything is extra. No salad comes with the meal. The bread they serve is tasteless and if you want more, you need to pay extra. When we placed our order, our waitress asked us if we wanted a salad with the meal or any side dishes. My husand got a salad. I ordered the Puttenesca and my husband got the potato gnocchi. When they brought our meals, I was amazed at how little there was on our plates! My meal was OK, but I was still hungry after eating it all. I tasted my husband's gnocchi and it was tasteless. He agreed and left part of his meal there. We will not be returning.

Love at first site

My husband, son, parents, and I went to this wonderful restaurant the day after Thanksgiving. When we walked in, the host was prompt and seated us at a long table. The ambiance was so nice. I felt like I was at a restaurant in Italy. It was very cozy. Amy and Steven, the owners, came up to our table and let us know all of their favorite items. We ordered appetizers, main dishes, and desserts. Everything was amazing. The prices, ther service, and the food was wonderful. We will definitely go back.

Simply the Best / Mama Rosa

First of all the pizza is the greatest, they are the only resturant I know of that serves grilled pizza, A warm atmospher, the staff makes you feel at home, and the food is fresh and bursting with a touch of old world flavors, I haven't had better in the Cleveland area! Thanks Mama, we will be back!

An Italian Restaurant has won a Polish Heart!

I am always very hesitate about going to an Italian restaurant since normally all you get is pasta and tomato sauce served in various shapes and bowls. Mama Rosa's has changed my attitude! At first, I was very impressed with the menu prices and then second, the choice of appetizers, entrees and desserts, przepyszny! My husband and I shared an appetizer which was the right thing to do since it was so large, but so good! For the entrée, I had the Christopher Pizza and my husband had chosen the pork. Sorry, I don’t recall the Italian names but it’s not relevant once you start into these scrumptious dishes. As I mentioned before in Polish, “deliciously yummy”. The pizza crust was very crispy and I was told they have a very special way of making them that you’ll have to find out about yourself. Warning...You better take home some of your dinner to save room for their dessert. My husband and I shared the tiramisu which was sinfully rich and loved every spoonful. I can’t wait to go back and try the many more items they have. The old world atmosphere is simply charming and our waitress always came to our table with such a big smile we couldn’t help but feel very comfortable and taken care of. Thank you Mama Rosa for such a wonderful evening. We plan to come back this weekend to find another “molto bello” experience. You have won me over!

REAL Italian!

Great new place for REAL Italian food. Home made gnocchi was the best I've ever had. The place was cozy, the music was pretty diverse and all the food reminded me of being in Italy. I appreciated the prices. Entrees were $8 to $12 and the wine list was also a bargain. And the tirimisu was incredible. What a treat in Brecksville.

OH MAMA! It's DELICIOUS!

First let me start off by saying...It's about time! Brecksville is long overdue for a restaurant like this. The atmosphere is cozy. Almost like your in Mama's kitchen. The food is better than my Mama's. We ordered the appetizer bread which is stuffed with mozzarella and deep fried. That was a table favorite. The rice ball was also wonderful (wished for a little more garlic) it had a wonderful crunch and was served with marinara. Then came our entrees. Two of the entrees were a potato and pasta dish. I have NEVER tried anything like it. Everyone at our table was sharing bites, and everyone was pleasantly surprised with how different this was than anything they'd tried before. Another entree was an olive and pasta dish ( I wish I had the names...). The sauce was very similar to what was served with the appetizer bread. Wonderful. Last was the Vegetarian Lasagna. This was simply amazing. Filled with eggplant, carmalized onions, and cheese...there is no going wrong with this dish. It left me wishing that I had not shared it-so I had leftovers for later! We had to finish with Mama Rosa's homemade desserts. They had a quite extensive dessert menu with everything being homemade sans the gelato. The tiramisu was held to high standards and did not dissapoint. The chocolate torte was so rich and so right! All being said, for two appetizers, four entrees, and two desserts, our bill was less than $120. Half of that was spent on wine and beer. I recommend that everyone checks this place out. It's sure to become a hit!

Mama Rosa - great experience

My wife and I had a very nice dinner at Mama Rosa's on Nov. 20th. Service was attentive and prompt. We were impressed by the variety of dishes on the menu. There were dishes that we have not seen at other Italian restaurants. Food quality, presentation and flavor was excellent. We had two appetizers and each portion was large enough to share among 2-3 people. One was made with white beans, vidalia onions and olive oil on top of freshly baked bread. It was hearty and a comforting mix of flavors. The other was a three lettuce salad served on top of a thin pizza crust. Both were delicious. For entrees, my wife had pasta with tomato sauce and meatballs and I had a pasta putanesca with spicy peppers, capers and olive oil. The pastas are made on premises and were cooked perfectly. The tomato sauce had a hearty home cooked character to it. Mama Rosa is located in a beautiful building that was originally the Spanish Tavern. The interior is spacious and roomy, with the feel of an Italian villa.

Keep In Mind:
Rating everything 5 stars or all 1 stars is typically not very useful to others as makes you look a bit biased.

Remember, you can still visit a not so perfect place (ie, a dive joint) and still give it 5 overall stars.
