Positive Catering Experience Every Time!

Absolutely cannot say enough good about our experience at Alfonso's! We have had 2 catered events there this year already, a 40th Anniversary party and Bridal Shower, and on to our 3rd event for our rehearsal dinner. They make planning the event easy, the food is amazing and always exceeds our expectations, and the pricing is better than any place we've tried. Dave is great to work with and will give you a no-nonsense experience. I recommend having Alfonso's cater any of your events.

Would never use for catering again!!!!!

We had to use their catering for an event at a specific location. I do not know where to begin..... The staff was frustrated and rude to me upon me getting to the venue. No one realized that the coffee make was broke until after the party started and nothing was done about it. So we never had coffee at all. The staff was rude to several of my guests. I could not believe the service we recieved for the price. I will say the set up was pretty but other thank that I would not recommend them at all!!!!! I just hope the venue who insists on using them realizes they will lose business if they keep using Alfonso's.

Birthday gone bad!

We have been here a couple times and was most recently there this past Saturday March23rd, 2013. It was my daughters 18th birthday and we had a change of plans from dining at home to coming out to dinner. We got seated by the lady with the brash red hair and you would have thought they were doing us a big favor. The server came over and asked if anyone had gotten our drinks orders, which they hadn't and she said "I guess I will take them" We then were witness to another server yelling by the cash register to another server about a table. Very rude. Then another server came in the front door, took off his coat and came over and said we were his table? What the hell? No idea who our server really was. The food was good which is why we thought of this place but the service was laugable. A good 10 minutes to bring a drink and then never was asked again. Would not go back!

Terrible is an understatement!!!

I was at a wedding catered by Alfonso's about a week ago, everything from the wait staff, food and service was a complete joke! When I ordered a glass of wine at the bar it was given to me in a shot glass!... I then took my seat because food was starting to be served, I was knocked in the head by a tray being carried by a staff member, not only did they not apologize, but they also just kept walking as if it was no big deal that they nearly knocked me off ofy seat. once dinner was served, we asked for some more bread since there wasn't enough to feed everyone at the table, the server very rudely replied as we don't have any more and abruptly walked away. Everyone was running around like they were training for the sprint in the olympics. Dinner was literally thrown on top of one of the guests plates and almost broke the plate. Portions were so minimal and not very tastey, we were not given any seconds, which normally wouldn't be an issue, but considering we only received chicken, potatoes, and vegies... Needless to say we were starving!!! An hour into the event I had went back up to the bar to get another glass of wine since I only got two sips out of it... The bartender informed me they were completely out wine and was so rude and didn't ask if I wanted something else, she just went on to the next person in line. I find it hard to believe that they could run out of wine so quickly considering it was given in shot glasses... I felt horrible for the bride and groom after finding out that they had paid a generous amount of money per plate, and the meal that was received was worth a sixth of what they paid... I've never had such a bad experience with a catering company in my life until Alfonso's!!!! Never again!!!!!

WORST CATERING AND SERVICE

Alfonso just catered my sisters wedding this past weekend and it was a horrific experience. My sister had paid an additional charge per plate per person to have the food served sit down on the plate , not family style, she also paid additional for a vegan dishes that were never served. On top of this I was there when my sister had chose them as her caterer and I never thought this would have happened. They not only ran out of food, silver ware, glasses ect. The staff spilled dressing on the guest, drop plates, moved people in the middle of dinner and cleared plates before people were finished eating what little portions they had. I had to eat my chicken with a spoon at the bridal table. The Dj had to cut the wedding cake. We had several guest call and state how hungry they left and how rude and unprepared the staff were. I was appalled. There will be several more reviews due to this. I did not expect this bc when at their restaurant taste testing we were very pleased but as for catering I believe they should stop.

phone manners are a reflection of the establishment

Seriously, when you are intimidated to place an order, time to take phone etiquette lessons. I am sorry everyone wants a pizza on Wednesday, hire another person to cook then. When you go to pick up the order, ask dont snap. Otherwise, I love the food and thats why I go there.

Food was just okay.We DinedWith TWO Other Couples AND TWO Of US Got OUR meals & tHE Other Four WAITED ,When WE Were Almost Done Eating. NOT A Very Good Impresion For The First Time There.

Terrible-Change the restaurant if you don't like the reviews!

My wife had read some good reviews on Mimi's and purchased the gift certificates to try out Alfonso's. We walked in and sat down and aesthetically the place didn't look bad at first. However, once being seated we were a little taken back by our surroundings. Namely the lack of cleanliness. The table, the seats, silver ware, and salt and pepper shakers. (Simple things that should be presentable) The table: Left over food and crumbs from last guests. The booth: More food/crumbs from the last guest(s). Silver: Smudged and nasty. The salt and pepper shakers: Out of place and smudged with food and/or finger prints. We were one of three tables so service shouldn't have been an issue (in theory). That in mind, it wasn't terrible. The waitress did her best but seemed to lack experience. Onto the wine: Glasses we smudged at the top where you drink. We were pretty disgusted at this point. Food: Surprisingly good food. No complaints here. We were really honestly surprised that we're not sick. I don't think we will be back unfortunately. My favorite places are hole in the walls with amazing food. With that said, this was supposed to be a nice sit down Italian restaurant. Mimi's had good review. Alfonso's has resulted in a lack of credibility for me going going forward for old Mimi. Let me just say next time I'd rather pay the extra money for a decent place to eat. Word to the owner: Focus on the fundamentals! The place doesn't have to be brand new, just CLEAN would be nice.

we attended last sat. oct. 1. We have had bad experiences in the past but got a certificate from mimis and thought we would give it one more try even though hearing bad things. My dAUGhTER Has BEEN SICK SINCE SAT. THE SALT AND GARLIC ARE UNBEARABLE IN THE FOOD. I HAD LASAGNA AND SHE HAD ANGEL HAIR WITH ALFREDO SAUCE. Sauce was so salty it could not be eaten. My lasgna was just slapped together with what looked like sliced meat balls. She really wanted brocollini but they had no brocolli. We also ordered a pizza to go and upon leaving the girl forgot to order it. And bald face lied that the computer made a mistake. What are people stupid. These guys better wake up. Owner does not care. Place was dirty and booths were terribly uncomfortable. We work hard for our money to waste it like this. Never again. Years ago we use to go here once a week what happened? Also why such a good write up in mimis every time i read the paper. Do they write there own praises.

Never Hire this Restaurant for Catering!

Attended an event where Alfonso's ran the catering side and it was the worst experience ever. To start off, the meal price was $12.95 but they said with tax it came out to $14.00, overcharging by 5 cents for sales tax. Maybe not a big deal, but wondering if they were honest and paid the extra to the State of Ohio? The event required that you make reservations ahead of time. That being said, our group had to "stand and wait" for an hour and 15 minutes for a table to open up. To make things worse, they allowed walk-ins to eat there as well which made it all the more long of a wait. To top things off, we were told we couldn't save a table while going thru the buffet line to be sure that our group sat together. We saved one anyway and received nasty stares from the staff. The worst part was when we finally made it to the buffet line, they ran out of food. We were relegated to only 1/2 of a chicken breast to be sure that everyone would get something and they totally ran out of dessert -- so we got nothing! Complained to the owner himself and he just ignored by statement that I paid my $14 just like the people before us and they received a full meal. Apparently Alfonso's does care about customer service and fairness.

What a Laugh!!!!!

I have been to Alphonso for my Birthday surprize party, showers, etc. Saturday night went with 3 others. First of all if you sat in a booth you needed a booster chair, they were out of lemon for the water, waited for over an hour for the pasta and they were out of Cheese. Imagine an Italian restaurant with no cheese. Manager was no where to be seen (I don't think he cares after reading the other reviews.)

knowledge is power!

Alfonsos has been a staple in Middleburg hts for some time. Could it use some sprucing up? Sure it could. I go for the food and the great certificate prices and the servings that allow me at least 2 more meals that I can freeze for the future.I found out a long time ago that you should order what a restaurant is best noted for and for Pete's sake read the rules for using the certificates. It is in plain english and not hard to understand. The staff has always been very polite and effecient and helpful when there are questions about any menu items. It is still a favorite and in these tough times there are many establishments that are struggling, be thankful you can afford to go out to eat, many can't put 3 meals on the table each day. I have never found this restaurant to be dirty or the staff disappointing or the food subpar. The food looks appetizing and tastes just as good. Don't like big plates? Don't order all you can eat, there are many other dishes that don't turn you off because of the big portions.

Ripped Off

Went to dinner with a $50.00 gift certificate. Bill was $35.00 including two drinks. Was told that I couldn't use the certificate for alcohol; had to pay cash for the drinks, which I did. Then I was told that the $20.00 difference between the amount of my bill and the amount of the certificate could not be refunded in cash. I said that's fine, just give me a $20.00 certificate for the difference. The manager said she couldn't do that, I'm just out $20.00. She said she was just following instructions from the owner. When I asked to speak with the owner, she refused to contact him. Plus, the place was filthy. Spent the entire time there shooing flies off the food. Ribs were terrible.

We must have been on a hidden camera show!!!

This place is a JOKE! We made reservations for a table of 25. They lost our reservation and had others sitting at our table. (had already paid and dropped off a cake in advance) We had to ask for other napkins as they were USED, Cold food, flat Pepsi, Out of Jack Daniels, lime, ginger ale. My father had to go across the street to CVS to get drinks. We waited an hour and a half for just our bread and salad. We were asked to "hold off on drink refills" as we were holding up the food.(makes sense since we only had one server for 25 people) We were then asked to reuse our salad plates for dinner because they were out of plates. When we said that wasn't acceptable the waitress slammed the plates around saying how ridiculous it was. When we called the owner to complain, he was "not sure what he could do for us". The table over was not allowed to have a table cloth or napkins because they were out. (our party and another party of 20 or so were the only people there)They also were turning away people at the door who came to eat. The bartender told someone from our party that they have to beg for their paychecks from the owner. We were served styrofoam cups for coffee because they weren't allowed to use regular coffee cups. The cups had dirt in them. Our table was propped up with a napkin under the leg to keep it level. My description does not even paint half of how terrible this place was!! Will NEVER go back!

Umm...I don't think so

We went to this 'fine' establishment looking for a place for our wedding reception. I knew it was trouble when we pulled into the parking lot. the 'strip mall' that it was in is VERY old and just not very nice. The theme carries over inside as well. The place is just old and dated and in need of a serious update! Booths are in very poor shape, and the rest is just "old". The service was good, the young girl that waited on us was very friendly. The food was ok...nothing special, but not bad. We just left with a very disappointed view of the place mostly because of the atmosphere and decor.

Never take a group here!

I was part of a group of 65 people that rented the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. They were understaffed for the number of people in the building. There was never anyone attending the bar so guests would wait 10 minutes to get a drink. The staff only set the exact number of settings for the confirmed number of people (which is reasonable), but they tried to force us to sit in a very tight section of tables all set for 8. When later arriving families wanted to sit together, there were only single seats at multiple tables available but plenty of booths around the room. The staff wanted the families to split up and were reluctant to let anyone sit at the booths. When they finally gave in they would not supply place settings. They wanted the guests to move around the room and gather empty place settings and water glasses to move to the other table. When food did arrive it was served family style, but they would only serve the original tables they set. Also, they would not provide any extra plates of food when the first plate was finished. I have never been to a catered event that served family style that wouldn't provide additional plates servings. It was bad experience all around and I will never go back.

I bought a coupon from GroupOn for Alfonso's. Only sorry I did not buy a dozen! The food was excellent. I had the Sicilian Casserole and my friend has the Seafood Pasta. The casserole was loaded with sausage, meatballs, pepper and onions. The seafood casserole was loaded with seafood. The salads were very good and the bread and dip phenomenal. We will definitely we back.

We have eaten here on many occasions, and the food is truly outstanding. The bread and dip are terrific, the pizza is great and the portions are large. The servers were very considerate. The restaurant itself, however, needs some serious attention. The tables are old and sticky, the booths are worn and shabby and the floor is horrendous. I guess you kind of feel like you need a shower after you leave! Too bad because the area could really use a good Italian restaurant, but from what I have overheard, some diners won't be back.

Prices too high for the area. Portions are so large, it doesn't look appetizing when brought to table. My plate of spagetti looked like a plate of pasta for a family style dinner! Salads were good but dressing seemed to be watered down from past.

I go to this place weekly and they have a great carryout deal on pizza on Wednesdays and half priced burgers on Thursdays. I can understand people knocking the service, but with the volume they do and in this fun economy, they have had to pull back at times... its logical. I was here and was not happy with the service, it took 10 minutes to get a table when there were plenty of open tables. The booth was very uncomfortable and in need of repair, the restrooms were very dirty. The salads were $4.50 each and when they arrived, there was not much there. This place may be under new ownership because at one time they were famous for their large yummy salads. The pizza was good but the large looked more like a medium.

I went to have pizza and salad here because at one time it was fabulous. Maybe it is under new ownership but when I went Oct 07 it was an aweful dining experience. It took forever to get seated, the salads were $4.50 each and there was nothing there! The fountain beverages were completely flat. The booth we sat in, was nearly falling down or maybe broke, it felt like you were sitting in a canoe, I am tall and my feet were dangling. The pizza was pretty good, the large looks like a medium size. The bread baskets had black mold on them and the ladies restroom was a mess. The floor was filthy. They say when the restroom is a total wreck just imagine what the kitchen may be like. The waitress was very nice!
