Fantastic

I don't know where to start except when I walked through the front door I was greeted Immediately with a friendly hello and smile. I felt right at home. I was by my self so I went to the inviting bar seat and sat down. The bartender was very personalable and we talked for a little bit, while I contemplated what happy hour beverage I was going to pick. He gave a good presentation of the selection of wine that they had but I couldn't pass up on the special hour prices on the martinis. Boy one or two of them sure made it affordable and happy. But I did have trouble deciding what to eat because I love there veal D'Agnese but I had not ever tried the Zupa de pesci. I agree with the last review, it was fantastic. I even was able to get extra bread to finish off the soupy part. I had a hard time leaving any part of it in the bowl. I left satisfied and content.

The Best Lobster in Cleveland

Ohio doesn't serve better Lobster Tail. I was seated quickly. The server was able to make a great wine recommendation based off of my preferences and was knowledgeable about the food. I decided to try the lobster Fra Diavolo special. The meat was perfectly cooked, sweet and tender and the fra diavolo sauce had the perfect seasoning with just a the right amount of kick. I ate till I was completely full and still wanted to continue. I'm completely impressed with this restaurant, the service and the management. I can't wait to go back.

Decayed Greens

I ordered a lunch meal of 1/2 soup, 1/2 salad. The wedding soup was the worst -so called wedding soup--of the many, many times that I've either made this soup in my own kitchen, or ordered it in different restaurants. Cubed carrots overtook the bland leaves of green, the broth was cloudy and the meatballs were very few. The leaf lettuce in was not fresh--some pieces were black around the edges and mushy, the dressing [on the side] in a huge bowl that took up too much space in the dish of wilted lettuce. When I mentioned to the waitress that I was disappointed in the salad she ignored my words and didn't even apologize in any way and actually wasn't very friendly. My daughter and I thanked her each time she served us and even after the meal was finished. The black book with the check was dropped at the table and the woman never even asked if we wanted dessert; as if we would so desire. The best offering was the Numi Rainforest Green Mate Lemon Myrtle Tea and that was simple enough served with boiling water. I will never return to this restaurant.

Trendy Place / Great Location / OK Food

Had been excited to try this place...but it didn't quite live up to expectation. We dined here prior to reading ANY reviews on this restaurant. Additionally, my overall review doesn't even take in the fact that they completely forgot to bring us our Salad & Soup that was ordered. I chalked that up as an honest mistake that can happen to anyone (albeit not very often at the best places). Let me preface something first...I travel for business and as a hobby, I try to dine at many of the United State's best restaurants (as well as Cleve/Akron area), so my reviews tend to come from a highly critical standpoint because I am comparing to the best restaurants in the US - cheap or expensive. Pro's: Super trendy, well designed, very good service, great bread Con's: Everything seemed EXTREMELY underseasoned except the bread. Blandest chicked I've ever eaten (honestly) in the Chicken Parm, the Marinara sauce didn't seem to have ANY seasoning in it either, very, very bland tasting. Noodles in the Spaghetti were just OK. Meatballs were large, they were slightly above average tasting, they were cooked well and had some oregano, but that's about it. Aside from a Trendy Atmosphere and great bread before dinner, the rest isn't worth the $$. I would honestly rather have Parassonn's...I can think of several Italian restaurants I would take hands down over this place. To the non-discerning diner, they will probably think this is a great place. If you have a developed palate for finer dining...you will be dissapointed. There's a reason for some of the negative reviews out there on this place. I personally give it a 2.5 out of 5 overall...but they don't have 2.5 on this rating system!

Food Good, disappointed with the Dishonesty.

I made a reservation for New Year's Eve for a long time friend and myself. I excited to take my friend to a restaraunt in the area in which I work. The food was good, the service was fine. I was very dissapointed though that the server took it upon themselves to double up on tip for themselves. I check my account daily online. I paid them with my Visa and left a (more than 20%) tip. They decided to charge me tip on top of my leaving cash. A total of about 42% tip! I even had drawn a line through the charge slip because I was leaving a cash tip for about 25% of the bill. Very disappointed with the dishonesty. Hopefully, they will do the right thing because I work in that area and will tell all my customers whom come through my establishment about that if they do not. I don't play that game. I work for a company in that area in which my staff get tips. I would be furious if one of my employees had done that to a customer.

DISASTER!

I don't know where to begin...the encounter I had at this restaurant has made me leary of eating at restaurants...all together. The catastrophe started after the server had taken the our (my friend and I) orders. We were served salads that were not the correct size we ordered (we ordered small and we were served large). While we were waiting for the server to return to the table, I noticed a hair on the side of the salad bowl. I immediately flagged down a different server and pointed out the disgusting find. She did not appear shocked or apologetic. I tell her that I do not want another salad, just the pasta I ordered. Meanwhile, my friend is reluctantly eating the salad she ordered. 15 minutes later the pasta comes out. (I am trying to give the benefit of the doubt and forget about the hair). After I eat my dinner and my friend eats a total of 10 bites of the salad (because she is so unsettled by the discovery of the hair), we decide to order dessert. After we order, my friend heads to the restroom to wash her hands. The server comes back and asks if the empty glasses that have been located at the end of the table for the past 15 minutes need refilled, to which I reply "yes." She brings back the refills and I again take notice to something. There is red lipstick on one of the glasses. My friend or I are NOT wearing lipstick. Just as I make the second disgusting discovery, my friend and the desserts arrive. I point out the lipstick and she immediately calls over our server. She says that she is sorry, and says "...I completely understand, I wouldn't drink it either..." To that remark, I am speachless! She is the one who served the glass with crusted, gross lipstick!!!! I know for a fact that restaurants can not serve used glasses for refills. They must use a clean glass due to health code regualtions. We ask to speak to a manager and 25 minutes SLOWLY go by. We stop the waitress and ask where he is twice and she says that he is on an "important call." By this time we have had enough and we go to the bar area where she says he is taking the important call. When we see him he is not on the phone, there are no customers at the bar and he is casually wiping the counter. My friend tells him of our situation and he replys, "I am sorry. What would you like me to do?" We just want to leave the restaurant at this point. We did not eat the desserts because of the disturbing lack of cleanliness, and with all the bad fod and drink taken off the check, the total would have came to 3.00. He does nothing for us by try to get more food in our mouths. We both decline and walk out. We get no more than 15 feet from the door, when the manager screams for us to stop and says "I understand you did not pay your bill. You know, leaving a restaurant without paying your bill is as good as stealing." My friend says that she will be calling the health department and that he needs to back up and let us go. (It is important to note that everyone in the restaurant is looking out the bay windows as the manager is fighting with us over 3.00). My friend threatens to go back inside and announce the hair and lipstick ordeal to which the manager replies "Go ahead it's a free country." When my friend attempts to go back into the restaurant, he says "Have a good day." Needless to say, I will NEVER go back here. If you like to drink out of glasses with crusted lipstick and enjoy other peoples hair in your food--you have found the perfect place to dine!

Very bad experience

I have never been to the Tomato Grill. I have heard tons of good things about it, so today I decided to attempt to bring a party of 4 in for a late lunch. As I was standing at the podium, I was ignored for 8 minutes. After another party arrived they were seated ahead of me. I then waved at the bar tender, and he stated that someone will be right with me. I took a look at the menu, had enough time to read it over and another party of 3 arrived. They too were greeted politely and seated. I asked the bar tender if they had reservations, he said "no they do not." At this time I handed the bar tender my menu, politely smiled and left. I hvae no idea what the food is like, I really wanted to try it. I cant comment on the food, but the service SUCKS!!!!

Fresh taste will please the most discriminatory diner!

Upscale atmosphere w/ warmth & hospitality of grandmas kitchen. Everything is so fresh, right down to the basil leaves that top your entree! Favorites, and there are many to choose from, are the Center Cut Pork Chops, Chicken Parmesan, Crab Cakes, Crab Stuffed Salmon Eggplant Parmesan, Gnocchi, Gorgonzola Crusted Grouper, Penne Puttenesca & Veal Parmesan. Leave room for dessert, the Tiramasu Torte and the Spumoni are out of this world!!

Too heck with you downsayers

When I use to work at Morse Controls, we use to go to "The Red Tomato" for lunch all the time, back when it was accross the street in the Acme plaza. Since it moved, I was ify about trying it but lo and behold, it was just as good as before. I had the Veal D'Agnese's and even asked for a substitution, which they did without batting an eyelash. So I would tell it to all my friends!

Appetizers don't make up for atrocious service

D'Angese's Tomato Grill is an update to The Red Tomato. It strives to be an upscale restaurant in an upscale development in an upscale neighborhood. This translates into high prices - unjustifiably high for what you get in return. The decor is nice, and since its reopening it is busy and very noisy and packed inside. While some of the appetizers are quite delicious (the crab-stuffed mushrooms, for example), the main dishes are aren't that impressive. However, the real drawback to this place is the service. I've never dined in a restaruant where the quality of service left such bad impression. Slow service, and when the staff made a mistake with our order, the service went from dismissive to downright rude. Ultimately, it left us with the impression that Tomato Grill would rather take your money than ensure you have an enjoyable dining experience.

Not too bad

I was a bit concerned about the restaurant after reading the reviews, however, we were pleasanly surprised. Service: Great. Food: Wonderful. I had a salad and the Chicken Sorrantano (I think that is spelled right) which was $16 for the chicken and the salad was extra. The dipping sauce was awesome and they had these little hot peppers in it that spiced it up a bit. Atmosphere: We were slightly disappointed in the atmosphere. there was only two of us for dinner and we felt like we were sitting with the people that were next to us. If you come with a party of four the odds are pretty good you'd get a booth and that seemed to be much better. We will definitely try the restaurant again.

Worth the drive

After having read the two posted reviews, I was nervous about driving the 30 miles just for dinner and was particularly observant to what everyone ate and the service. There were four of us dining and we all agreed, the food was delicious, presented nicely, and the service was attentive. The ambiance was upscale but informal. The menu selection is quite large. There were many chicken and veal choices as well as beef and seafood selections. Grouper was prepared three different ways and the special last night was salmon. We all ordered something different and we all ate every bite. We had an enjoyable and pleasing meal and we will return.

Disappointing

My family decided to try the Tomato Grill. Overall it was a very disappointing experience. The service was poor. The waiter acted like he really didn't want to be bother with us. He disappeared for long periods of time before taking our order and bringing us our check. The food was great before the entrees arrived. The stuffed mushrooms were excellant as well as their wedding soup and their house salad with field greens with mandarin oranges and candied pecans. The bread was excellent with both their garlic butter or dipping sauce. Then our entress came and the food went downhill fast. The chicken parmigana ($14) was three small chicken breasts that were covered with a tomato sauce that tasted like a cheap spaghetti sauce out of a can. This did not come with any sides. It was $3.50 for the salad and $2.00 for the pasta. The salad was upscale from the usual tossed salad so I don't have a problem with paying extra for that. For $2.00 you got a small bowl of pasta drenched in that same bad tomato sauce. There many other fine Italian restaurants in the area where the food is better and more reasonable. My family won't be returning to the Tomato Grill.

give me the red tomato, skip the tomato grill

Anxiously we have waited for the reopening of the Red Tomato, one of our favorite restaurants, as well as that of my visiting parents from Chicago. We always felt that it was as great meal, well worth the money. Now with their new location we can say an okay meal, definitely not worth the money. Why do restaurants feel that the more they charge the more people will like it? I'm sorry but when I have to pay $3.50 for a side salad with my entree and $2.50 to get something on my plate besides for a breast of chicken or hunk of meat, I'll go somewhere else. The storefront may not have been very glamorous but at least I only had to pay for the food, not the upscale location. Portion sizes were small (my dinner pasta would have been a luncheon portion somewhere else) and the dinners not all that memorable. Aside for the calamari appetizer, which was very good, there was nothing that would bring us back. By the number of people waiting The Tomato Grill will do well, but this is one family that will not be waiting in that line. What a disappointment.
