Show me the monkey!!

The new owners have done wonders with the place in just 2 months! I used to come to the establishment prior to the "re-vamp" as I like to call it. The service was sub par, bar a little on the dirty side, a dull crowd, etc. I stopped in a few times over the past 2 months and the improvement is obvious! The bar smells, looks, and IS clean, the bartenders actually have personality, knowledge of drinks/menu, prompt service, and courtesy! (Not bad to look at either)! The relaxed atmosphere is exactly what I look. They support local artists by featuring their work so the decor is very cool. My only critique is no food made directly in the bar. Other than that, I love it!

The New Monkey

A new manager recently took over management at the Flying Monkey and thanks to her I will be patronizing once again. New bartenders without the attitudes, drink specials, DJ's and cleaniness have improved the entire atmosphere. Bar is usually full and weekends have picked up! Great bar with a lot of potential!

What is it about the Monkey?

So I do agree with many of the reviews that have been written, the Flying Monkey does not always have the best service, but it does have a nice patio and it is not always crowded like some of the other bars in Tremont. It is a great place to go to have peace and quiet, other than those days that they decide to play the music so loud that you have to yell to order a drink. It's a great place to get away since not many people go there, but be careful, the Monkey may get you into trouble...

We discriminate against hippies!

Okay so my husband and I decided to go out for a drink around 9pm Saturday night a few weeks ago. We walked into the bar, which is literally around the block from our house, and sat down at the bar. We were there for about 15 minutes before the bartender even acknowledged us. She was friendly enough when she apologized and asked for our drink order, so we shrugged it off, no big deal. We each had a couple beers (not crappy cheap beer either), played a game of ms.pac man and pinball, and then we asked for our check. When she brought it to us, she said "sorry about the service tonight, you can expect it again if you come back." She walks away. We looked at each other and asked if she actually said that. Then we even tipped her because we're not bad people! We are pretty good tippers, in fact. We won't ever be going back there and its a shame because its right around the corner. Sucks for them!

Tried it , didnt like it

Went last weekend with friends, have been there once before about a year ago, found the same attitude laden bartenders, so rude don't know how they keep their jobs, must have poor or no management. To them they're doing you a favor by waiting on you! Drink prices were high for the amount of liquor poured, and womens restroom was mess,no TP at all. Oh, and the monkey was broken. We'll stick to Treehouse.

NOT impressed

Not often that a place evokes enough angst to make me write about it, but this place was amateur at best.Arrived with friends early to have a cocktail/wine before dinner at Fahrenheit. it was not busy at the 6;00 hour, so why it took 15 minutes for barmaid to pull herself away from conversation with friends at bar made me wonder. The wine selections were meager,so we opted for martini's and cocktails, she had to ask us each 3x what we wanted, and then still got them wrong! The attitude was even worse, we were really impeding on her time with her friends across the bar, sorry!!. We were interested in the story behind the bar, history, etc and heard about the monkey that was supposed to dance? But she would not offer any info, was short and said the monkey was broken. ok,then, we'll just pay up and get to dinner early. Will not be back. Maybe a change of staff with people who enjoy talking to customers would help.

Great spot for chilling out and having drinks.

The interior of this bar is just gorgeous. All very nice wood work with thick layers of clear and clean poly. The bar is large and well stocked. The bartender we had was very attentive and friendly. The drinks were served correctly and generously. The prices were slightly higher then usual, but the quality of the drinks served made up for that. When you visit this bar, be sure to check out the monkey that pops out of a box above the bar. Also, take note of the actual belt driven ceiling fans. The restrooms were quite clean and classy. Very nice place, but perhaps too laid back to spend your whole evening there.

One of the most laid back bars ever

This place is so laid back and perfect for people who do not like music in your ear and are more laid back. I love that the atomosphere is so just whatever. Dark lighting. The bartenders there are awesome and very friendly. It's one of my favorite places to go to. Especially if you do not want to go downtown and deal with the idiots there, any place in Tremont is great.

Flying Monkey - Wear a hat

OK I must be a glutten for pinishment, everytime I go there the bartenders are so preoccupied with their personal lives, they don't care what they serve up. Vodka tonic twist of lime. It took 3 times before the guy got it right. Next visit the female bartender was so rude she spilled my drink and when I asked her to wipe up the spill shd told me the napkins were right next to me. True they were only 3 seats away, I still do not get what is with the people who work there, oh the and the bathrooms are discrusting!

Thanks to the Monkey

My fiancee and I moved into the Tremont nieghborhood about six months ago from coventry. We enjoy going to most of the bars around Tremont but consider the Monkey our home base of bars, if you will. We have never been dissapointed in the service, cleanliness, atmosphere or the attitude of the employees or patrons alike. Here's a solid handshake to Adam and a peck on the cheek to Jess, Jen, and Audrey. We bring in various friends to the Monkey and we all generally have a good time. With good music, only two small discreetly place tvs, and a solid beer, wine, and liquor selection (although more IPAs please) the monkey is a nice and comfortable place to go whether you're just starting out the night or ending it.

Lovin' The Monk!!!!!

As a regular at the monkey I just wanted to say how lucky tremont is to have a pub as friendly, clean and affordable as flying monkey pub. Adam, Jess, Jen and Audrey make you feel like you belong and always have my drink on the bar before I can even order...I'm there a lot. Nonsense to all the bad reviews!!!!! Every experience I have ever had has always been a delight! Keep up the good work monkeys!!!!

RESPECT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I lived in Tremont for the past 5 years. The area is great, bars awesome, food out of this world. It really hurts me to see that other people that live in the area would comment in such a way to scare people from the flying monkey. The bar is great, staff amazing, and beer selection rocks. Work together Tremont! Without the people, bars, gallaries, restaurants, ice cream stands, churches and coffee shops the area would never progress!!!

Overpriced and over rated!

Drink prices are very high for Cleveland and the attitude of the bartender was horrendous. He was rude and very inattentive and gave us a dirty look when we asked if he could turn the music down a bit. Food was good and nice portion size for bar food but could have been a little hotter. Ladies room was filthy and lacked paper.

Totally Fun and Friendly

I've been to the Monkey many times - and always had a good experience. I've gone there with many friends and everyone has enjoyed it. The bartenders have been friendly and attentive - and return patrons are treated almost like family. The building went through a great renovation a few years ago from its previous existence; its a wonderful looking bar with a terrific newer patio (the patio is about a year old). A totally fun and friendly place to go in Tremont!

Totally disappointing!

I was told about The Flying Monkey by a friend and decided to take a group there. We were not even acknowledged for 15 minutes after we sat down. The bartender had to ask us what was in our drinks,(you don't know what's in a sea breeze?),and was very short with us. He seemed to have other things on his mind, as we had to go up to the bar and order after that.He kept reminding us that it was Pabst Blue Ribbon night,...very classy, and actually gave us a dirty look when we only left him 18% tip.I'm not one to complain, but I had been told this was a nice friendly place and all of us agreed that it just was not a good experience at all. I apologized to my group and we went elsewhere. I do not suggest this place to anyone.

Adam is the best!

This place is unique. With a flying monkey and wonderful woodwork, the place is very cozy and unique. However, Adam rocks! and makes a good thing, well... great! And - if you live in Tremont or Ohio City and like football - sign up for the Christmas Day Football Bowl. Adam has a score to settle this year and is looking for a few, good players. In the mean time, stop and see him - especially during May artWalk on the 13th.

Keep In Mind:
Rating everything 5 stars or all 1 stars is typically not very useful to others as makes you look a bit biased.

Remember, you can still visit a not so perfect place (ie, a dive joint) and still give it 5 overall stars.
