Not so impressed!
My family and I planned a 95th Birthday for my Grandmother here at Gavi's so we had a party of 13 for dinner. (My wife and I have been here before many years ago and had a great experience so we were expecting the same this time.)
First, for a large party we expected to have at least one server dedicated to us- this was not the case so we were left to keep asking for things while our server was off waiting nearby tables. I would not have expected this from your average restaurant but, since I consider Gavi's to be upscale dining it was not unreasonable. Gavi's also provides crudite. Most places that do this also provide Basalmic vinegar and fresh grated romano cheese. With a party of this size better planning would have been to have these things already at the table so that you do not have to keep asking for them.
Second, I had "Freddie's Pasta", an angle hair pasta dish with spinach, sun dried tomatoes, onions, rock shrimp, sausage, and Hungarian hot pepper. The meal was all right but was not very balanced. The pepper and sausage overpowered the dish and didn't let the other flavors come through. My wife had one of the evening specials " Pasta of the day" which had overcooked pasta, sundried tomatoes, shrimp, and no sauce(a very bland dish). Neither meal came with a salad but, my wife and I each ordered one. The salad was a small bowl of spring mix with a dull balsamic dressing hardly worth the four dollars each.
The atmosphere was nice and the restaraunt seemed clean, that is all I can say in a positive note. My wife and I were expecting the same quality of service and food that we had experienced on our first visit to Gavi's. Overall, the food did not wow! for either of us and the service was average, for the money we were expecting fine Italian cuisine bursting with flavor and hands down great service. Sorry Gavi's, we were expecting more.

Built in the 100-year-old powerhouse once used to power Lake County's electric railway, Gavi's serves as an ambassador of fine dining to Cleveland's East Side. From its crested, wood-beamed ceilings to its elegantly lit interior, David and Mary Gromelski's establishment and its courteous staff provide refined yet comfortable dining. Appetizers include capesante con spinaci (scallops with spinach), which pairs a trio of pan-roasted diver scallops, topped with a lemon beurre blanc, with wilted spinach dressed in garlic and olive oil - perfetto! Crafted first-course pastas meld ingredients - such as boneless short ribs, Italian sausage and vegetables in slow-simmered tomato sauce, or ground veal ricotta and spinach in roasted tomato mascarpone sauce - and toss them with tender fettuccini, cavatelli, rigatoni and penne pasta. Entrees are accompanied by a mesclun salad or soup de jour. Costoletta d'agnello (cutlet of lamb) seasons an imported Australian rack of lamb with a garlic, rosemary and cracked black pepper rub before it is pan-seared and then char-grilled to order.

Great Food, Great Atmosphere!!
I love this restaurant! My husband and I go every year for our anniversary. It's like a tradition with us now. The atmosphere is spectacular and the food is extraordinary. It's worth every penny. The service is also wonderful. If you have a chance to have the home-made tiramisu for dessert, don't pass it up!
