Great food and very inexpensive HIDDEN GEM
Great little place, amazing food and at a great price.
Soup was good, had both the wonton and chicken rice. Probably the best in Lakewood and I've been to many different chinese resturants.
Place was empty probably because its a hidden gem

This looks scary
Is it just me or does this place look like you could get murdered in the parking lot? It looks like a it would be some kind of drug prostitution mafia hit front. At night it's absolutely petrifying. At first glance I thought the place was an abandoned veterinary clinic, if not for the glowing sign that read Golden Gate Chinese restaurant. I highly recommend this place be the set of the next b-movie slasher flick shot in north east Ohio. On the whole, the food was authentic and the service was impeccable.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST CHINESE FOOD ON THE WEST SIDE OF CLEVELAND! PERIOD!
AWESOME sesame chicken. Great Won Ton. OUT OF THIS world fried pork dumplings (better than our friends home made - and she is an amazing cook!). Golden Gate is one of the many reasons why Lakewood and the West side Rocks!

This has to be the best darn Chinese food I've ever eaten. The soup actually was LOADED with noodles, ham and all kinds of things Ive never seen in any restuarant Ive been in. The food tasted fresh and well seasoned.This is a mom and pop place that cares.Two thumbs up... 5 stars...whatever... JUST GO... Don't listen to mike...he doesn't have a pallet!

Truly a "Classic" when it comes to Chinese Cuisine!
My entire family has been enjoying Golden Gate since I was a young girl. I have been to many Chinese restaurants in Ohio and throughout the US and nothing has come close to Golden Gate. My Uncle who grew up in Cleveland, traveled and now resides in Atlanta, during his visits to Cleveland some their are individuals in our family that suggest Pearl of the Orient (Rocky River) every time, and the majority rules and we either dine in or take out from Golden Gate. Although very simple & quaint if dining in...they are truly a "classic" when it comes to Chinese cuisine.

Horrible Food!
The service was ok, should have known that since the place was empty, then food is bad. The two dishes were horrible, Kung Po & Sesame Chicken. I understand the restaurant wants to cut corners due to the economy, but chicken that had grizzle in it, tasteless undercooked meals. A waste of money & the health department should be called. It was too over priced for crappy food.

Best Chinese food ever
I have been going here since I was a little girl. And I have always loved it. Usually after I eat chinese food i can't even think about eating it again for a couple months sometimes longer. Not the case here. They have a dish that I have not ever found anywhere else. The "Hong Kong chicken" it's one of those dishes I have never forgotten and is on the list of all time fav's. Must try. Wish they delivered though.

Go out of your way to get here
Although we've moved, we keep going back. Eat in, carry out, both are great. Same family owners for years and years.
We've tried others but everywhere else is second best or less.
I really enjoy the soup (not greasy) and the ribs. Mood changes what dishes I prefer on any specific day.
It's like going to a long term friend's place.

The Best Egg Fu Yung Ever!
I agree with Pam, I grew up in Lakewood and went to Golden Gate for dinner with the family at least 2x per month. I that all egg fu yung was made the way Golden Gate makes it. It wasn't until I moved out of Lakewood and live in Greenville, South Carolina, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Manhattan Beach, San Diego, Oxnard and currently Ventura, CA. I have traveled to Las Vegas, Arizona (Tucson, Phoenix), California (Santa Barbara, Pismo Beach, Sacramento, Modesto, Roseville, CA, San Francisco, San Rafeal, CA, San Jose) Chicago, IL, San Antonio, TX, Austin, TX, Denver, Co, and probably other cities I have had Chinese food. I always order pork egg fu yung. None have compared to Golden Gates version. I look forward to going back to Cleveland so I can enjoy the best egg fu yung ever! Will be back from Feb. 21st to 27th and you can count on me making my way to Golden Gate for their nectar of the gods pork Egg Fu yung. It is that good!

20 Years as my Favorite
I have been going to Golden Gate since it opened and I believe that is roughly about 20 years now. It is by far the best Chinese Food around. I have never gone there and gotten an 'ok' meal. Everything is delicious. Consistently! From the Egg Foo Yung to the Chicken Subgum (crunchy veggies topped with fresh almonds) to the Chow Mien.....yummy on all of it. Then there's the S&S chicken and shrimp, the great wontons........ I could go on and on. Same Friendly Family has owned this restaurant since the beginning. I highly recommend this little diamond in the rough to all.

Best in the country
This is the best chinese food in Ohio. The soup is to die for and the ribs are by far the best in the country. The service is outstanding. The place is very cozy and clean and the service is outstanding.

Golden Gate is such a great place. Prices are very fair. Portions are huge! Wonton soup is to die for. Service is fabulous. Please go visit this restaurant if you are a chinese food lover. You will not be let down!!

Oh how I miss you
I have searched around the USA and have not been able to find any egg fu young that even comes close to The Golden Gate Chinese Restaurant in Lakewood Ohio.Everything I've ever eaten from this restaurant has been absolutly delicious. I tell everyone they haven't eaten Chinese food till they go to Lakewood Ohio! I am currently living in Kansas, but I am from Lakewood and I've had Chinese In Kansas, Washington, and Texas and I'm telling you nothing compares. They are the best ever!!

One of the best kept secrets in Lakewood has to be this fantastic Chinese Restaurant. Fast, efficient, friendly service, mouth-watering, delicious food and super low prices make this restaurant a "must visit" location.
