Always a treat to hit the Great Lakes - the food is always good to great, and the beer is ALWAYS fantastic. You can't go wrong with the burgers (order 4 kinds of cheese on it, and they don't even blink), terrific pizzas... and the fish bites are addictive! The entree menu is constantly changing, and there are often some serious treasures. The entrees generally aren't cheap, but have excellent taste and quality. The pizzas and burgers are competitively priced. The beer, though, the BEER!!!

This place has some of the best beers in Cleveland. I go out every weekend for at least one meal with my girlfriend. Thought we'd try this place for a dinner last weekend. I was extremely disappointed with the meal. I had no idea the chef/dinner food was so terrible. I ordered the special, a porterhouse for $28.00. It was cooked perfectly, no problem there. However, it was missing the filet. It literally looked like it was cut out. They took it back, mostly because they brought out a rack of ribs for my girlfriend (she actually ordered chicken). No big deal. But then they brought out another porterhouse that looked about the same size as the last (very small, 3/8" thick). And the filet was about three small fork-fulls of meat. Pathetic. I let the manager know I was disappointed. He comped the meal and offered free desert for the poor quality. In summary, the beer's great, but word is the chef doesn't really do a good job with the dinners. I believe it.

This Market Avenue landmark has been one of Cleveland's favorite spots for more than 15 years. With a menu that appeals to tastes both simple and more sophisticated (and beers to match), Great Lakes is likely to be as crowded on a Tuesday afternoon as on a Saturday night. Starters like walleye bites and Prince Edward Island mussels pave the way for such entrees as the porter-battered fish and chips, a bratwurst and pierogi plate, and the longtime favorite pretzel chicken. The menu provides beer recommendations for each dish; beer names are rooted in local lore (Burning River Pale Ale, Eliot Ness Amber Lager). Dessert selection is limited, but the Edmund Fitzgerald Porter chocolate chunk ice cream - produced exclusively for Great Lakes by Mitchell's Ice Cream - goes a long way toward making you forget about that.
