She always looks forward to the warm brie with fruit, and I'm hooked on the cinnamon coffee! Sitting in the back room feels like a pleasant afternoon on the patio. June 03, 2005        Nestled into a brick home built during the Civil War era, Heck's has survived both fires and changes in ownership since it opened in the '70s, and it's still a snug and cozy place for a casual meal. Additional space behind the original building has the feeling of an enclosed garden; a wrought-iron spiral staircase and windows near the top of the walls give the space a light and airy feeling. The menu offers dinner salads, sandwiches, pasta and items from the grill. Farfalle tossed with olive oil, Parmesan, spinach, walnuts and caramelized onions satisfies, with al dente bowties and an earthy blend of quality ingredients. The famous Heck's burger still deserves its reputation - a two-fisted sandwich, served with a mound of fresh-cut fries. Desserts are worth the caloric splurge. Special desserts, including lemon layer cake with real butter cream icing, approaches the level of lick-the-plate good. Review By:
