If you like lettuce, this is your place!

I've been meaning to try this place for years, and finally got around to doing so this evening. While limited, the menu had some great possibilities. Unfortunately, with dishes that screamed "FLAVOR" in their descriptions, the food was incredibly bland and unbelievably mediocre. The chicken burito was not much more than a tortilla loosely wrapped around a bunch of lettuce and a speck or 2 of chicken. Chicken Cashew salad - ditto - although the grilled veggies were good. Our service was actually very good - attentive and cheerful. Bathrooms had an unpleasant odor and the tables were well worn. Overall, despite a lot of potential with the atmosphere and menu possibilities, we see absolutely no reason to go back.

Meh...

My friends love it, however I think the food is lacking and the service is terrible. I don't think I have ever waited longer at a restaurant for anything. Both the food and drinks take an excruciatingly long time.

Lousy service

I've been going here frequently but about to give up. I love the atmosphere and the Watermelon Margaritas. The last few times I've been there, there are usually multiple servers that just keep passing you by. Honestly the past 2 times i've been there I've waited 10-15 minutes and had to go ask to put my order in. Food is ok. Like another person said would like to see some menu changes after the 6 years I can remember going there.

The Best Mojitos in Town

I have been to Johnny Mangos several times over the years and have always left with a smile on my face. This past saturday afternoon was no different. My wife and I had the Big Plate burritos, she had shrimp and I had chicken. Each was as delicious as the next. To top of the meal we each ordered a mojito and decided to just get a pitcher instead. The drinks were perfect. Not too sweet with just the right amount of mint. Maybe could have used a drop more rum, but other than that, awesome. It didn't hurt that we had the best day ever to sit in the sun and enjoy a fine meal. This place is definitely worth every penny and then some.

Love You J. Mango!

Your food is great! I love your pad thai and the zoni beach (drink). Your salsa is excellent also. I've been coming to visit you for years and find your place hip and trendy still (Great place to people watch). My only complaint is that you I wish you would change up your menu some. After 10 years, some new menu items would be nice. Take care and see you soon! xoxo

Love Johnny Mango's!

I tried this place for the first time in, I believe, 1995/96. I fell in love with the Cashew Chicken Salad, with grilled veggies. Have been going back ever since. Yes - it would be nice if they had more space... but that would require moving out of the cool space they are in. And they do have good service most of the time, but you really can't always have a full staff on - sometimes they are empty one minute and suddenly full at an odd time! Sometimes, I must confess, I wish they weren't so popular... but they are popular because their food is fabulous. I've introduced many friends, and have at least 6 who live out of state and each time they visit, they want to go to Johnny's - usually with a comment about how they can't get burritos like that in whatever state they live in now.Important thing to remember is that JM's is popular because of the unusual menu, the great atmosphere, and the quirky staff... if you want to go to a restaurant that feels like it came out of a food magazine, with a menu that goes on for several pages, that place is not Johnny Mango's. If you want to go somewhere interesting & comfortable, with a unique menu and yummy food, that they have!

Been in love for 4 years!

JM was the first restaurant I experienced before I relocated to Ohio City from out of the area. I love the Pad Thai! I really wish happy hour would return throughout the week! My friends and I really miss meeting there for a couple happy hour cocktails, which always ran right into dinner for us! Service may not always be the fastest, but if I wanted fast food, I would drive up to a speaker and scream my order from my car!

Not Quite What I Expected

My wife and I went around 6 on a Thursday, and did not have to wait for a table. As others have mentioned, the waitress/server was not prompt. I ordered the tuna medium rare, and it was served medium well. Also, the flavor of the tuna seasoning did nothing to arouse my senses. The portions were generous - enough for two meals. My wife had the crab cakes, and had no complaints. I was also disappointed at the limited menu, which needs to be spiced up in my opinion

Bring on the 5 spiced beef

I had their ____? salad. It was like eating a pile of grass clippings. Looked nice but it should have been place in a bong and smoked... It was the worse thing I've had at Johnny M's. They should really hire ANYONE will to try new things. The menu has not change mainly I believe because the menu's themselves are encased in plastic and would require the EPA to dispose of. Really Johnny, try some new food and get the 5 spiced beef on the menu... It's getting OLD! Uzi --the whiner

You will probably have a 10 hour wait...

but if you can deal with that, it's worth it. This is definitely "global" cuisine - if you get a burrito, it'll be stuffed with something like black beans and feta cheese. Which, might I add, is DELICIOUS. I lived on Ohio City for a year, and it's practically the only thing open on Sunday, so my husband and I ate through the menu. I've never had anything bad. Make sure you get the Big Plate version of whatever you try! The exotic margaritas (like the mango) are fantastic, and the prices are generally very good, especially for the quesadillas and burritos. Service can be S-L-O-W so be prepared to wait. The place gets extremely loud when it's busy, so it isn't a romantic spot, and you'll be pretty packed in to a tiny, wobbly table most likely, but it's NON SMOKING (yippie!) so you won't have to choke on fumes while trying to eat your delicious meal.

Food is Awesome/Service HORRIBLE

My wife and I had lunch here on a saturday afternoon. It took about 10 minutes for our server to even acknowledge u, then she took our drink order and never came back! Another server brought us water and then went and grabbed our diet sodas. Once we received our food, we had no napkins or silverware. I had to retrieve napkins from the bar. I also had to flag down the server for more drinks. The quality of the food was outstanding, but I hope they can hire some good quality servers!!!

Bring on the 5 spiced beef!

Wylie and I on our usual trip to Johnny's notice something new, 5 spiced beef. Wylie wimps out and does not go for it your's truly does and WOW! it was like a party going on! The beef was so very tender and the array of spices as super, like each bit was a bit different and EXCELLENT! I've told the folks at Johnny's to put the 5 spiced beef on the regular menu but it looks like we'll have to get the pubic involve with either a protest or worse case??? Just kidding, please, please Johnny put the 5 spiced beef on the menu!

coconut mojoito's hmmmmmm....!!!!!

I went to Johnny Mango's this past Sat. with my girlfrind Bridget and some of her friends. We had all been there before but you never really appreciate it until you go back in and start smelling the flavors of the night. We started at the bar(naturally) and order a mojito, the bartender suggested a coconut mojito. I agreed and before you know it I was ordering picthers! The six of us enjoyed the drinks and then moved to dinner. Even though I hate tomatos I order the guacamole and chips. It's outstanding! Next I ordered the Pad Thai with extra shrimp and no tofu, please! The pad thai is really the best dish on the menu. The servers and cooks are fun and make the experience enjoyable. They even gave me an honorary hairnet! I wore it with pride. If you go, join the membership club, it's worth it. I can go back and get $20 worth of Mojito's for free(well really $20 off my bill!) ENJOY!

Keep In Mind:
Rating everything 5 stars or all 1 stars is typically not very useful to others as makes you look a bit biased.

Remember, you can still visit a not so perfect place (ie, a dive joint) and still give it 5 overall stars.
