With about 15 tables make sure you make a reservation too. Amazing wine list! Food is out of this world! Love the steak but don't overlook the Gnocchi and save room for dessert with bananna's foster! June 03, 2005        If you were passing through this neighborhood, not much about the outside of Johnny's Bar on Fulton would draw you in. But, knowing what we know, we're always happy to be there: The funky-elegant decor and outstanding food never disappoint. In this small, cozy spot, the bar is first; then, up a couple of steps, comes the main dining room. Illuminated just enough, it's made cozier by the dark wood walls and black chairs and banquettes, with white tablecloths on the closely set small tables. The dinner menu consists mostly of entrees - about 30, all inventive and extremely well executed (including some Italian fare): several veal variations, like the pan-seared long-bone veal chop stuffed with chevre and leeks, with shiitake mushrooms and fresh sage; a couple of fish dishes; and a few steaks, such as the very good tenderloin with lobster in puff pastry with chardonnay sauce.
