Ants in the syrup
My husband and I were in Cleveland for a few days, to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed at a nearby hotel and went out for breakfast since our hotel didnt offer a continental breakfast. After doing some internet research we settled the Jordan's Family Restaurant b/c it reminded us of a small diner we have near our home. We placed our orders, received our drinks and upon receiving our plates we requested syrup and ketchup.
The syrup container had about 6-8 ants crawling all over the bottle. We moved the bottle to the edge of the table and called over the waitress. She apologized, took the bottle, left the bill and returned with another bottle of syrup, but this one didnt have a spout cover on it! This made us very very nervous, b/c if ants were on the last bottle, they could be IN this bottle. So we were very nervous about even trying this out, but not wanting to cause a scene, we checked out the syrup. Everything looked ok as far as we could see, so we proceeded to enjoy our breakfast. My husband was still cutting his steak and I only began eating my bacon, when I decided I wanted to eat my french toast instead. I poured syrup on my french toast and immediately told my husband we were leaving and were not eating! There were ants in the syrup! We apparently just couldnt see them in the bottle!
Needless to say we didnt eat any thing more from there and will never return! Not sure how this happened, if someone had just goofed and didnt clean up or put away the syrup the night before, but it definitely wasnt a pleasant experience. Judging by the number of 'regulars' that were in there eating when we were there, I cant imagine that this is a normal occurence! Just wanted to share my experience with others!
