Description of Work: Found this company in the Gold Clipper mailer. First scheduled appt. = no call/no show.
I should have considered that a warning... After the original no call/no show, I called the local #. My call was returned 3 days later. Appointment rescheduled. Technician arrived for evening appt. It's winter/dark outside, and he had no flash light? "I can run to the drug store and get one, I guess." Wtf? I loaned him my flashlight. ~ff~ Technician determined roof is "too slippery to work on. Can we reschedule during daylight?" No. I work days, and can't take time off. We reschedule for 3 days later, another evening appt. Exterior inspection indicated my chimney has a cemented cap at roof access. Makes sense, as my fireplace is ventless/non wood-burning (gas log). Technician tried to sell me on BREAKING THE CEMENT-ADHERED CHIMNEY CAP to do a sweep, requiring add'l masonry work? Um...no. Just do what's necessary to complete service/cleaning from the inside
(cosmetic!) flue entry point, thank you.
Comments:
Work completed Nov.6 ~ff~ Nov.15. First day of horizontal winds/day-long rain. I'm in the attic and sense...something isn't right. Intuition = inspecting the chimney. Roof insulation is wet, sagging, and dripping from a corner where it'd pulled away from the entry point: chimney. Water damage on the attic floor below. Yikes! I wiped it up and secured a drip pan beneath the leak, which is dripping only down one side of the chimney. Hmm? I walked outside to inspect my chimney. Visual evidence of broken flashing. A section actually missing... at attic leak point?... I've owned my house for 6 months. I visually inspected roof/chimney when I bought my house in May. Professional home inspection deemed chimney/flashing in perfect condition. Inspected again during a killer rain storm in April. Flashing totally adhered and secure; all was fine, both incidences... until I had my chimney serviced by Chimney Cricket.
FYI: 1-800# on my invoice = a wrong #. Local # = vm. Left message.
